It sure works well for me but I notice that in many threads, people treat ebay check-out like it's the worst thing that can happen in a transaction. I can understand if the s/h is not known..but otherwise, what's wrong with it?

May we assume, since you are posting on this board, that you are a Vendio user? If you are, then...

Gee ain't it nice when the buyer uses the VENDIO check out and then all the seller has to do is click to print the shipping label and get the item on the way quickly? Same for the sellers who use Andale and all the other Auction Manager programs out there. The entire process is handled quicker and more accurately (no chance of my making a typo in the address, for instance). Now that Vendio harvests the information from Paypal payments, some buyers who use the Ebay checkout get scooted into our system the same as if they had used the Vendio check out (a truly wonderful thing) but not so for those who want to mail payment. I was wondering, really...if you prefer Ebay's check out, then why do you use Vendio?

I ship 99%+ using Priority insured. Each sale is different as far as destination and weight. I state in my auctions that I charge only for postage and insurance. To be accurate, I wait till end of auction, harvest the buyer's zip and figure postage at that point. Not being very computer literate, I find it easier to sent a semi-personalized end of auction email to my buyers.
If anyone can tell me of an easier way, I'm all ears.

Life is not a dress rehearsal

I have tried to work with ebay on this but their system is great if you only sell one item at a time to a person. If you sell multiple items to someone then ebay checkout is the worst thing you can do. I sell on an average of 4.25 items at a time to people so when they have several auctions/ listings they bought from, the ONLY way I have found to work is have a non-ebay system to automatically send them invoices once a day with the items combined. Otherwise I would have people sending me multiple payments thru paypal and the paypal fees would make it not profitable for me to sell on ebay. It would be a NIGHTMARE. I even talked to ebay to see if they had any way at all for me to use their service. But I have about 800 customers a week and I certainly don't want to manually do it.
HOpe that helps to make sense of why some people can't stand the checkout.

Ebay's invoice does combine and it's easier than Vendios.

Although a few people don't want to use the Vendio check out because they think it is not secure, I get more complaints from people who think the shipping process should be faster, that is especially true of buyers who mail payment. If I make each buyer email me a zip code after the auction, which they often will not do until at least the next day, then I figure the shipping and email them back, which they maybe don't read immediately, then you have added a mimimum of two days (usually more) to the time between end of auction and item arriving at their door. Whereas, if a buyer uses my Vendio check out as soon as the auction ends, technically the box could be ready to mail by the next morning. A hobby seller who has to send out 2 or 3 emails a day is one thing, they can usually keep that all straight as to which buyer belongs to which mailing address, and who has paid and who hasn't, etc....and that is IF (big if) the buyer bothers to put the item name in the emails, and not just the Ebay number, for instance. Before my Vendio days I used to spend a LOT of time just matching emails up with auctions. When a buyer sends an email that says Ebay number 123456789, then you have to do a search to find out which item that is, then answer the email, then get the mailing address, then make a shipping label, and hope you haven't made any mistakes along the way. So when you have a LOT of auctions, you can see why an automated system that keeps all of that together is better? If many auctions end at the same time one night, then by the next morning when you get up, all the buyers have been already contacted, most have responded, many have paid, and the Vendio page shows all the information they provided in the check out and has added them to the Vendio "to be shipped" list, or whatever their standing is. I was spending WAY too much time sending email, making lists of who had paid, searching auctions to find the one an email referred to, and double checking myself to make sure I had the right mailing address on the right item, etc. When you see that "please do not use Ebay checkout" on an auction it is usually a seller like the poster here who has 800 auctions at a time...and sells multiples of the same item. Those sellers have to start the day with a list of items to ship and where to ship them to, not a jumble of emails that would take all day just to find out which items are paid and need shipping labels, which need a shipping amount email, which need a payment reminder, etc. Vendio does all that for you...and that is why big sellers request their buyer NOT use the Ebay check out.

I am a Vendio user but don't use Vendio checkout because I don't want to impose more rigamarole on my buyers (do unto others as you would have them do unto you etc). I use Vendio for image hosting, listing and post sale management.

EBay checkout is now wonderful in combining orders!

I certainly can understand not wanting buyers to use checkout until you compute s/h if it is not known at time of listing. Luckily, I charge one flat rate for shipping and also allow buyers to edit the checkout if need be.

as a buyer I have been thrilled with eBay checkout as it is easier than any other!

I prepare my items for shipping directly from PayPal. I ship 100-200 items/week and this works fine for me..I copy and paste the address and auction title and id right from PayPal details. I then "file" the transaction so that the only items showing under "my account" in PayPal are ones that have not been shipped.

Checks and money orders are another matter and a real pain in the a$$...still, I get it done. I don't pay any attention to the emails buyers send with address etc and just prepare shipping from the check/money order itself.

"I have tried to work with ebay on this but their system is great if you only sell one item at a time to a person. If you sell multiple items to someone then ebay checkout is the worst thing you can do. "......

Not anymore. Ebay check out has improved greatly. The only thing they don't do is include the sellers address. I just copy and paste.

As to address I just cut and tape Pay Pal address.

Really simple if you work with the present system instead of fighting it.

The things I DON'T like about Ebay are auction watching, Snipping and now a new item called "calender".

Kind regards,
David

David- I remember reading somewhere that they DO show the seller's address if the buyer goes through checkout and indicates he/she will pay by check. The eBay invoice no longer contains the seller's address and unless you want it in all your auctions you can't put it in the payment instructions box BUMMER

Hello
yes you can but you must do it manually.IE first invoice type address/ copy and paste in all later ones.

There are bigger problems out there than this and finnaly after near six months I have had a good week.

The trick for those who are going on is to get a webb site and draw through google and ebay to it, while they can.
