How close to Christmas do you still post auctions? I'm trying to decide how close I want to run them. I hate the is it here yet E-Mails wanting it by Christmas and buyers are getting more hateful about it in the last couple of years.

My auctions *end* a week before Christmas. So I suppose I post the last of them two weeks before Christmas. I always put a prominent note that if you don't pay immediately (i.e. PayPal) you won't get your item until after Christmas at the earliest.

We have taken the week off prior to Christmas for the last three years. It works really well.

I am a little ticked off because I just sold a "Thanksgiving" item and buyer says she will be sending MO out friday. Then adds, "do you think I will get it in time for Thanksgiving?"

What? Is the onus is on me to worry about this?? I dont think so! I told her it should take 2-3 days tops to arrive to her.
I suppose I could be nice and pre-ship but really not in the mood to get screwed even though its not a high end item. Ever just feel like youre being set-up for a fall??

Don't you love it when they try to make their problem yours?

I too get that gut-tightening feeling when someone says, "Do you think it will be here in time for x holiday?"

Makes me want to say, "Do you think a person with a brain would have asked that before bidding?"

Yeah, it's usually the third or fourth email into a transaction that I am suddenly informed that she "needed it for a birthday in a few days".

I made a mental note last year about this but don't remember what it was LOL! I do recall that the P.O. lines were longer, a couple of things I shipped were broken in transit (and that almost never happens to me), packages were later in arriving, even Priority mail, and I got a bit anxious because my personal life was being messed up with worrying about shipments and sales. I think I'll not sell after the first or second week of December.

I have found that these suddenly-I-need-it-quick people are very appreciative if you make the extra effort to get it to them. They are usually willing to pay for fast shipping. Also, I have never been stiffed by one of these people if I ship before receiving payment in the mail.

It is kind of funny, though, that some people think that they can put a check in the mail on a Monday and receive their item by Thursday.

BTW, each year I have listings ending right through Christmas and up to New Year's Day, and they are quite successful. People are in a buying mood and they have lots of time off when they can sit at their computers. It's Jan. 1-15 that's the real dead period.

Not for me. Business picks up December 26 and goes clear through February.

People always find the money to buy jewelry, chocolate and alcohol.

You know Fluff I was thinking about that today. Wonder if sales die off after Christmas as they do in retail?

You're right about certain things sell all year through, though. Just dont know how my stuff is gonna fare since I try to list oddities or Htf items. (God, I got a long road to walk down! lol)

But I met an older woman at a church craft fair and she was selling out some of her jewelery. She said she had people come buy bags by the dozen at a time. (that didnt surprize me). I forget what I said to her then, but she replied: "I just love jewelry; I keep buying it."

I never knew such people existed.

When I sold T-Shirts and Sweatshirts, I sold more after Christmas than I did before. Of course that stuff don't sell that great on E-Bay since the shipping went up. So I had to put those items in the closet and forget it.

I love holiday selling! The past 3 years, sales from Oct-Feb are the best. I keep on listing as many items as I can manage. I think sales are especially good when the weather is bad, because they are at home surfing!
