I recently moved, and have now started back up with a new computer. I just found out this week that at least 4 emails that were sent to me never arrived. (The ones I know about were return emails to questions I had asked.) Who knows how many more there are that I don't know about! I checked with AOL live tech help tonight and he danced around with an answer that sounded as if AOL is the problem. I was ready to start listing with Ebay, but certainly can't until I'm assured of getting all emails! I'll run my computer throught the checks he suggested. But I wondered if anyone else who uses AOL is having this problem? It MAY just be my computer.

Switch to earthlink you'll get your mail. AOL's email is a joke.

I use AOL and have no problems with my mail. I've been using AOL since the old pay per hour days, I like their mail, have never had problems with it and found it especially convienient when I was traveling. I have had no reports from customers or complaints about lack of contact (except for those whose questions are so assinine I havve to delete it for the best interest of the writers psyche and my own sanity) and have to say that as many posters here have complained about delayed notices from ebay and PayPal, mine have always been right on time leading me to believe that the delays other complain about are server and filter related as opposed to source related.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

If you want to be a reliable seller and you want to get all your emails DON'T I REPEAT DON'T USE AOL ( AO H--L) they have for to many filters in use and dump more than half of all email I always have trouble with aol customers saying they never received my emails. Dump AOL and get a real ISP I use peoplepc. at http://www.peoplepc.com only $10.95 per month no down time.

cdarnold,
AOL has a known history with maintaining server-side filters on e-mails. This means that they stop any e-mails that they think are SPAM before they even get to your mailbox. The problem is... that this software is less than perfect... and many important e-mail messages may get lost. You might want to read this discussion thread on the topic:
http://www.vendio.com/mesg/read.html?num=2&thread=537284
It really is very frustrating as a seller. You have to anticipate server-side filters AND user filters. Sending a simple e-mail has gone from an easy task to a potential nightmare. It's just not reliable anymore. hope that info helps!

I agree with fenix..I use AOL as my primary email ( and have since 1998) and I have had no problems getting my email. I think the problems with AOL users are the spam filters and levels of security the individual users have selected (some people are so paranoid)..I have had trouble in recent days with my PP WBN's getting delivered to some AOL accounts and the only thing i can figure is that their spam filter is not letting them through.

Just try to leave AOL. Then you will find out how crapy their service really is. They don't let you leave. Nearly all of the undeliverable e-mail addresses are AOL addresses in my experience. I have many friends that still sware by it. I ask them how many times have they got kicked offline. Three of Four times today is the usual answer. Some things never change. When will AOL users figure out that this is not normal. I have used many other basic services for a lot less money and never get kicked offline and the speeds are clearly faster.

As a seller, I've had a ton of problems with buyers, mostly newbies, not getting my EOAs. The AOL spam filters block my ISP. It got so bad that my auction listings have a "special message" for AOL winners asking them to contact me if the don't get an EOA in 24 hours. I've had a few that have such high filter levels set that they don't get the eBay invoice either.
Those of you here who use AOL have reached a high level of knowledge about the internet. But a lot of people use AOL because it's so intuitive, they don't have to think. And we all know that when bidders stop thinking, we have problems.

Good idea about the notice in your listings to AOL users about EOA's! I went so far in one auction to actually change the image with a note to buyer - his AOL wouldn't even accept my aol emails. It's the users and not the ISP! I don't rely on AOL for connection - I use comcast for that. I have tried the freebie emails before and don't like them as well as AOL and my husband won't part with the AOL financial portfolio section.

Neglus,
I'm on Comcast, too. And it's not like Comcast is a small ISP. You'd think the wonls at AOL who create the filters would realize this.
Please feel free to use the special message language on my auctions. I put it in the Vendio template's terms of sale.
