Seems like all the idiots are coming out of the woodwork. Just received this email from a winning bidder:

I certainly hope the shipping charge you have quoted here is a typing error, because a $9.00 shipping charge is unacceptable to me. I will however agree to half. (4.50)

If you are not in agreement with this, than I must cancel my bid. I hope we both will come to some understanding...

This item weighs just over 2 pounds which means 3 pound rate which actual cost to this bidder is $8.55

Marc, are you gonna tell em that? What is your response to this buyer?

Jack: Yes, they are a changing...feel it everyday. I'm still rowing my boat, mostly merrily but if I hit the shore safely (as per other thread) dont know that I want to go back out there again.

I had an email like that one a few weeks ago.
I didn't bother responding. My guess is that people do not have a clue what it cost to run a business. I think I provide a good service. My items are made to order, Professional packaged. UPS ground shipping. Tracking and insurance are included. Everyone pays the same price except international bidders.

Good night.

Accept the offer. When she pays, ship her half the outfit.

What is with these people? Do you think they would get away with that crap from the JC Penney Catalog or Avon? I think not. Why is it they feel like they can tell us what they feel like paying? I'd be tempted to just tell them too bad and I'll sell it to someone else if they can't afford the mailing fee...but then again I'd just tell them that it will be shipped at a $4.50 rate and stuff it into a large envelope and ship it off. Well, maybe I wouldn't really do that, but I'd sure feel like it.

I had had it happen about 3 times so far in the last month. I tell them as soon as I recieve the shipping charge I will mail it but not until it is done. They have sent the extra shipping charge through Paypal after that.

Neroter:

My response was that the $9.00 shipping was clearly listed in the ad and in eBay checkout so the shipping price stands as is. I have had no response as of yet.

I know how you feel. I just got an email that made me lugh. "If I win this auction can you ship by first class mail to reduce the shipphng charges." I stated in my TOS that shipping charges are $3.50. It doesn't specify how I will ship.

This was the buyers response to my email:

"Please re-enlist the outfit since you can't lower the shipping charge."

I'll give them a day to change their mind. I let them know the consequences. Their first neg will make a nice Thanksgiving treat!

I would reply with an invoice for your fees and paste eBay's bidding policy into the email.

Well I got the expected retaliatory neg out of this as I expected. The idiot buyer even said in their feedback that they offered to pay half of the stated shipping amount.

I've got an auction for an assortment of "widgets" running right now and the bidder just emailed me (AFTER bidding) to ask:

"If I win this auction, can I just pick the ones I want and pay shipping on them so it will be cheaper?"

Sheesh!!

I haven't answered yet.

Tnernie, Whatz the problem??? I would gladly let him pick and choose. As long as he understands that he will be paying the full final bid. Quote him your standard shipping fee on the auction. Then relist the remainder or throw it away if you've made your money.

Marcn,
So many people DON'T realise- but Rayon is a very heavy fiber!
Not that has anything to do with her attitude- I like your responses in the feedbacks.

Dragonmom:

The packaged weighed in at just over 2 pounds so it ships to zone 8 for $8.55. The real cause of the weight was the large shoulder bag that was part of the outfit. I really hate negs and all 20 I have received over the last 5+ years were basically the same kind of things.

I really think that most bidders never even look at feedback. I see many sellers with hundreds and even thousands of negatives and peole are still bidding.

The biggest concern I have is this bidder seems to have a tendency to complain (according to feedback) and how do I cover my a$$, if they later claim they didn't receive everything in the auction?

why does this moron think that shipping rates have anything to do with purchase price?
last time I checked, the post office as well as UPS were still basing fees on distance and weight...

The following is an actual Email I received from a winning bidder the other day. This bidder won the auction and paid me for the jeans but did not want to pay the shipping. The shipping was 5.95 for a pair of jeans and that was the actual shipping. Winning bid was 4.95.

DID NOT SEE SUCH A HIGH PRICE FOR SHIPPING I CAN BUY BRAND NEW JEANS AT THIS PRICE. THERE WASN'T EVEN A LENGHT LISTED AND I AM 5 FT TALL SO LEAVE YOUR NEGATIVE FEEDBACKS IF YOU WISH BUT I AM UNEMPLOYED AND THOUGHT I WAS GETTING A DEAL NEXT TIME I WILL READ MUCH MUCH MORE CAREFULLY. I AM SORRY AROUND HERE USED JEANS IN A YARD SALE ARE ONLY $1.00 SO DO WHAT EVER KEEP YOUR MONEY IF THAT IS WHAT YOU CAN DO TO THE POOR BUT I DON'T HAVE ANYMORE TO SEND AS SAID I AM UNEMPLOYED. THIS WILL BE MY LAST TIME ON EBAY ANYWAY MY PHONE WILL BE TURNED OFF TOMORROW

I don't respond to these emails anymore...I once went into it with a Canadian who was outraged that I was charging $5 for shipping on something she was sure would only cost $1.50 to ship (It did cost $4 to ship, so $5 was reasonable, plus it was my listed price to the US, and I kept it exactly the same for Canada because the cost was similar) - We completed that transaction without leaving feedback, but I won't respond to someone making an offer on shipping after the auction ended, I just ignore them. They may go to NPB and FVF, I don't keep track of how many do pay.

It is cases like this where I wish ebay had the ability to just NARU someone like that (with proof of course) - I know, I'm dreaming. Ebay makes money from deadbeats, because I don't believe most sellers go through the fvf process, they just write it off. Then ebay makes double money from relists. Nothing will change.
