As a seller I either leave positive feedback, or none at all. There's no business reason to leave retaliatory feedback to a buyer, even when it's deserved.

Sometimes a reply to the feedback is justified as long as it's professional, but in this case I wouldn't even reply to it.

This is the minority view I imagine.

Same here.

I would leave a short & polite comment under the nuetral she left for you regarding shoes were as presented in ad and photo. But, for her, no feedback at all.

But then, I leave feedback when I ship unless I am dealing with a cranky customer, so it wouldn't be an option and positive would already have been logged.

uaru, you say: <<There's no business reason to leave retaliatory feedback to a buyer, even when it's deserved. >>

There IS a valid business reason. The entire feedback system depends on all of us entering accurate feedback. I consider feedback a valuable tool that depends on ebayers as a community, not individual sellers/buyers. To think of it only as an individual is short-sighted IMHO.

And EVERYONE uses feedback, even if it is just when looking at other users to determine their degree of experience. Anyone who says they don't use feedback (not that you said this) is not being truthful with themselves.

You HAVE to leave a neutral feedback at a minimum to show this buyer that like feedback usually gets like feedback. All of the sellers that do not respond to neutral and negative feedbacks with like or similar feedbacks do all the other ebay sellers a big injustice.

What, exactly, do you have to loose by returning the neutral? She's already left feedback for you. So long as you are professional in your wording, you can at least let her know that running around unfairly hitting sellers with poor feedback will hurt her record too. I just don't see the downside, so long as you keep it professional so you don't look difficult to work with.

Here's a suggestion for you.
Neutral,No Contact about a problem, slow to pay!

If she asked you for a refund before she left the feedback, and you refused, then the feedbck is deserved and you should not do anything.

However, If she did not ask for a refund or otherwise complain prior to leaving that feedback comment, then she violated ebays rules and deserves a NEG such as: "Complaint: Left derogatory feedback comment without contacting us for resolution first."

The purpose of leaving feedback is to notify others of a users behavior. Leaving a feedback comment without asking for resolation is something others should know about.

Just received my first neutral this week and left a neutral in return. The buyer didn't contact me about the problem so how could I respond. In my neutral I just said "I would have given a refund if you had contacted me."

In your case I would leave a neutral or even a neg saying "Accurate description how is it my fault you didn't like what you bought?" How dare she blame you for not liking what she bought....it's a matter of taste not good description/photo or customer service.

Just got back from Walmart Super Center...Thanks so much for everyones input on what to do...I'm gonna think about my response to her over night before I leave my feedback...gumble gumble lol
She did NOT contact me first or even after and I would have refunded even thou it was a matter of her taste not something wrong with the shoes...I took good up close pictures of the top ,inside and bottom of the shoes so it's not like she didn't know what she was buying

If she had no decency to even contact you, leave a big fat NEG.
Negative: Beware! Leaves Neg Fdbk w/out contacting seller to resolve problem!

I'm solidly with the ones here who say you should leave a neg or a neutral AND respond to her neutral, too.

All of us owe it to our fellow sellers and buyers to leave honest feedback.

The buyer needs to learn that she's responsible for her words; we create what happens to us, and by being an irresponsible Ebayer, she's created ill feeling and resentment. She needs to learn.

Hi toasted

Your bidder is fairly new and the first time she left feedback for everyone was today and it does look like she bases feedback on her personal taste for the item and not at all on the description or how the entire transaction went.

She bought another pair of shoes also and I guess she liked them better?

I agree that she has to learn how the feedback system works and she has to learn how to communicate with the seller.

I'd leave her a neutral for sure because of that.

I would leave a neutral;

"NO contact regarding problem. Slow to Pay."

At least that way she feels the sting of the neutal/neg feedback.

I would also add a the same as a comment on the neutral she left you.

I saw that too Kiara....The very first thing she left a feedback for says: really like the shoes ...and it not even a pair of shoes and the shoes she bought from me were Size 8 ,every other pair she bought were 8-1/2...not my fault she bought the wrong size the first time. I responded to her neutral with Accurate description Feedback left w/out contacting seller to resolve problem...I haven't left her feedback yet cause a wrote a very pleasant e-mail asking her why the neutral ,mailed the day she paid ,packed good etc etc and you could have e-mailed for refund blah blah just to make sure she didn't give me someone else's feedback lol (dreaming I know)and I'm so dang kind hearted it's killing me to leave a neutral for the woman even thou I know it's the right thing to do to prepare other sellers. This is my second neutral (no negs...knocking on wood) the first one I deserved big time because I forgot to put this is not a smoke free home but this one wasn't like that ...them were some nice dang shoes ....clean inside and out.

Too much emphasis is put on feedback. Is neutral to you a bad thing?? When one reads her comment they will surely dismiss her neutral. I once had a person leave me a negative on a 99 cent baseball card that I did not ship in a plastic protector. I never said I would I shipped it in a plain white envelope with two pieces of cardboard. I had to get over it. You should leave positive feedback as a seller if you get paid- period. Then if the buyer leaves any bad feedback add a comment. Usually you have too much work to do without reviewing your feedback at all. I have had good success buying from sellers with high feedback numbers that had somewhat high negative feedback as well. So what I am saying is "don't sweat the small stuff!"

-Just my two cents.
Prepare for the worst but hope for the best!! Spuddy98

You should leave positive feedback as a seller if you get paid- period.

That has been said many times here before and I don't agree with it at all. Just because they paid me doesn't mean that they were a good customer. Feedback should be based on the entire transaction and one of the most important parts of the transaction to me is that they are pleased with their purchase.

If they choose to mark my feedback in any negative way to others viewing my auctions and they don't have the decency to even contact me first because they aren't satisfied then they don't deserve a positive.

Many will say a neutral or negative is no big deal and to get over it but it's still a slight to the seller if they haven't done anything wrong. Toasted didn't do anything wrong.

If they don't understand how the system works, then they should be clued in. When I read negative and neutral comments from bidders it seems that most of them are unjustified.

Neg her for slow payment.
Put her on your BBL.
Next time she'll buy shoes she does like!
