I state in my auctions that I will ship to U.S. only but occasionally someone international will inquire and I am willing to do that occasionally. The problem is I can't understand the shipping calculator on the USPS website for international mailing. Specifically, in this case the item only weighs about 3 ounces and I figure it will add 3 more ounces for a box and packing (but I don't think I would want to mail it in an envelope). The cheapest rates are listed under airmail letter or economy letter, which list measurement requirements. As long as these measurement requirements are met, can I mail a small "package" under "letter" class? If not the price jumps from about $5 to $14 in this case.

I too found the USPS website to be confusing. Yes, you can ship your small package at the less expensive rate, although I don't know why.

The ebay shipping calculator is free and super easy to use on auctions for sellers and super easy for the bidders to see what the s/h will be. Just put in the total weight of the auction item w/ packaging, your zip code, which shipping method, and any extra fees you want added ( that the buyer can not see ). The only drawback is that only one method of shipping is allolwed.

I always send small packages via air mail letter post. As long as you are within the measurement requriements, there shouldn't be any problems.

they USPS website states "letter post" but it doesn't matter if it's in a box or an envelope as long as it's within the required size. But just to be on the safe side DO package it, weigh it, and then quote the cost! Letter post is anyway it's packaged as long as it's small. It confused me and the PO but it's the size and weight that matters, not the envelope.

hammerchick:

Will your item fit in a USPS Global Priority (cardboard) envelope? At $7.00 it's a great buy for shipping, and it gets there pretty fast. These envelopes are available over the internet at usps.gov, or right in your post office at the counter.

I've used it for personal shipping of business papers, and I've not had a loss yet.

I was shown a small envelope for Global Priority, it's $5
The normal Priority envelope size, Global version was $9
A Priority mail Video box will fit inside nicely for some structure, and you stil get the $9 price.
Otherwise you are in the "thick book rates" the Postmistress slapped out on the counter....

I hope that helped!

Is there a way to get the ebay shipping calculator into the Vendio sales manager ‘pay as you go’ plan of loading auctions?
