They, whoever THEY are, say you can't get the flu from the shot since it is dead virus they are injecting into you. If you get the flu it is because you already had it just hadn't shown symptoms yet.
I didn't get the shot either. I have only had the flu once, which is more than enough thank you. I'm in TX which is already reaching epidemic lever with the flu so I kind of wish I had gotten it. I'm having Lasik surgery the 13th and hope I don't come down with the flu while I'm recovering. I'm sure coughing would be hard on the eyes with the pressure and all. My parents are giving me the Lasik for my Christmas.
They say the strain of flu that is going around isn't the one they made the vaccine for. It was a wrong guess which happens from time to time. However, the shot will help you not get quite as sick as you would be if you hadn't gotten it.
Sure hope you get over the bad reaction Liveinjeans~!~!~!

liveinjeans: Glad you are better. That would be a scarey situation!
I get the flu shot every year and have never had a problem. Of course, this year it probably won't help either so I guess it is still just a crap shoot.
The first year I went in to take one I actually read the warning you have to sign about "could result in death" and walked out. My husband and I both came down with the flu on the same day that year so after that we are the first in line when it is available So far, so good.

I get a flu shot always about the 1st of Oct. Haven't had reaction since my first one over 40 yrs ago. I had the "Asiatic" flu in 1961, spent Xmas & New Years in bed. Will never go without a shot ever.

liveinjeans: LOL over your comment.
We went to Reno for the weekend and I took my postcards that are currently listed with me. Didn't trust them at home in case of fire since so many had already sold.

I would say whoever gave you the shot did not aspirate the needle before injecting.(That is to draw the plunger back after inserting & before injecting to see if there is blood in the needle, if there is you have to use a new needle & start again) I believe you were injected directly into a blood vessel. Shots should always be aspirated first to make sure your not doing that, but seldom are.
They are to be absorbed, IM or Sub Q, not mainlined. When you see bruising that is what happened.

I don't get a flu shot. The one and only time that I did I ended up with the flu. I'm just beginning to get into homeopathic medicines. I've got one for Bronchitis that works like a charm! It doesn't work as fast as the narcotics I'm usually prescribed, but hey, if it keeps the codeine away I'm all for it. I've also got one that's great for any kind of radiating pain (cramps, etc.). I'm looking into supplements to take to avoid the flu. I think after years of pouring antibiotics and other manmade delights into my body, it's time for a change. I simply hate getting old!
For sinus troubles try an essential oil combination of JoJoba Oil, Essential Oils of Ravensara, Peppermint, Eucalyptus Radiate, Tea Tree and Roman Chamomile. You can usually buy it already blended. It works wonders! I keep a small roll on vial in my purse. Also, if you do get the flu, Peppermint Essential Oil is great for easing nausea!
My granddaughter started school this year and so far she has brought home two colds. She's so sweet - she gave them both to me.

I can relate to getting germs from others!
When I was an elementary school teacher, everytime I changed schools, I picked up every bug that the children had!!
It seemed that I stayed sick for several months, till I built up immunities!
When my own kids were sick, I'd get sick.
I still use some of the old fashioned remedies ...Vicks Vapor Rub....smells awful but boy! does it open the nasal passages!!
Vaporizers help too......lots of juices and fruits.....ginger ale helps nausea!!
I think the most important thing we can do is WASH OUR HANDS OFTEN!!! That's what most medical professionals will tell you.
It's difficult when you go shopping and have to open doors...guess we should wear gloves!!

I can relate to the washing the hands thing. My solution is to carry a small bottle of antibacterial lotion in my purse. I hate the soap in bathrooms (I have very dry skin)! Did you ever notice how dirty your hands are when you leave a resale shop or a flea market? Just think what germs you are picking up there! Yuk!

I use a homeopathic- lets see if I can spell it- OCSILLICOCCINIUM I think that's right. I don't believe in homeopathy, but this stuff works! You have to buy it now, before you get any flu symptoms at all, and keep it untill you need it. If you know you were exposed, or if you suddenly realise you are feeling flu-ish, you start taking it. The flu basically goes away, or you have a very mild case. Amazing stuff.
