I put up a 'vintage', what I thought, was a stereo receiver. Got an email from, what sounded like an angry ebayer, all in CAPS

THIS IS NOT A RECEIVER! ITS A TUNER!

Its already got a bid on it.

In pictures, I showed the back, the model, BUT, duh me, I put in description: I don't have speakers at the moment to hook it up.

Ok I'll need to write to the current bidder then, tell them, then end it? or revise it, but to revise, I'll have to cancel their bid?

argh

Any help, would be appreciated! I'm going to have to go out pretty soon, but will be back

thanks! (again )

A tuner is a device that simply receives radio signals (AM and/or FM).

An amplifier just amplifies an input signal before sending the signals to your speakers. They require an input device, such as a CD player, turntable, or tuner.

A reciever will incorporate both of these into one unit. A receiver not only receives radio signals, but it also amplifies them so they can be sent to your speakers. Receivers also perform switching between inputs, which is sometimes considered the job of a "preamplifier." High-end audio setups usually break these functions down into separate components, but for consumer-grade usage, a good receiver with all these functions built into one unit will do a perfectly good job.

Without seeing the item I can say that if it requires speakers, it is a receiver. If all it has 2 RCA output jacks on the back, it then is a tuner only. A receiver will have volume, tone, balancce and other controls on the front as well.

If it is a tuner, and not an amplifier as well, you might do well to email bidders to explain, cancel the bids, drop starting price to below $10.00 to get lowest listing fee, turn off automatic relist in Vendio (or be ready to revise quickly if it relists automatically) and change the ad.

If it does not have speaker outputs, then the guy is probably right.

The change will cost you 30 cents plus 25 cents for gallery if that was chosen.

Hey I love radio, and I have a Tivoli, that almost looks like this, but its an 'all in one' thing.

And I have some old tube radios that are put to use.

The 'stereo guy' here still has all that stuff packed, and he's not around right now.

It must be a receiver, as a tuner would not have a volume control.

It does have an on/off/volume knob.

The back though...duh,now just looking close, says 'Tuner outlets' and the bottom ones say 'for volume controlled phonographs'

Your bidder is INCORRECT -- your item is a STEREO RECEIVER!

If it were a TUNER, there would be NO speaker out jacks! Nor would there be a VOLUME CONTROL!

A tuner is just a plain AM/FM module that has to be jacked into an amplifier or receiver in order to squawk!

Looks like a 1970's KLH model, back when KLH was quality!

I'm back... ok, going to try and test it right tonight. I surely don't want to deceive any bidders. I got this one at an estate auction, and no one was bidding on it, so I did and got it for $3.00! So, I did plug it in, the light came on, and turning the 'tuner' knob the meter moves on it.

I don't know, now that it has another bid, but I have time, I think 5 days, and I think I can get it straightened out long before then, and notify the bidders, and go from there.

I really appreciate all the help.

Tom, yeah, actually, I thought it looked really cool. I have a new Tivoli, and it looks almost like this KLH, wood cased, small, and GREAT SOUND (but of course the Tivoli has a speaker on one side ) Tivoli is a Bose competitor.

thanks all... I thought I had done all the research on this before listing... but still, I am glad this one was caught way before it is over.

Thanks

Ok, couldn't wait, found an old headset with the jacks that would fit in the back of this thing, and through the headset I got the radio! AM or FM I have no idea!

any ideas? this is getting crazy!

I know I'm being a PITA, but this is another one driving me nuts!

Why would you NOT hear the radio??

Ralph is confused by yer observation! A receiver is a COMBO -Tuner+Pre-AMP+Amp...hook up a turntable & ya have a snazzy set to play all yer Tony Orlando & Dawn LP's

LOL! how bout some ABBA?

I don't know... a headset is a speaker, it worked, heard sound

I'm confused on being told (not the person from here, I think it was here!) that wrote this morning telling me that its not a receiver, as I put in the auction, but a tuner.

I hate stereos, why couldn't they just stick with the AM tube radios???????
