I just sold a item that got several bids. The winner wrote immediately stating that he was in Mexico and would like it shipped Fedex or DHI. He said he would send me a credit card number to cover all shipping etc.
I don't take paypal on international and offered a bidpay link. I told him shipping was going to be $200.00 (item only cost $100.00) - he then wrote back saying ok "go ahead and ship" I'll wire transfer when you send me your banking information? No bidpay!!
He filled out the check out information but said he didn't see the bidpay (which could be true as I delete all payment types except other) but his payment address changed to Switzerland?
He only has 1 feedback so I'm getting a bit shaky about the whole thing?
Will I be ok if he does bidpay on this?? This could cost me $200.00 plus the cost of the item.
Help!!!

This has the smell of a scam and I bet you suspect that. You are safe to accept Bidpay. Be sure to wait for their second email for confirmation. If the shipping address is anything other than what is shown in that email, clear it through them as per their instructions before you ship. The only payment I would accept in this situation would be Bidpay or cash.

Tell me you DIDN'T send him your banking information. Sounds fishy to me and I'd halt it right now. I would ask for a money order through bidpay only. Also, I would not ship until I had the money order in hand and cashed. I hope I understood your post correctly. Ship nothing without that money order and don't send anyone your banking information. JMO.

BidPay will cover yer arse -- that's what so nice about them!

PLUS: they do have a nice security feature: if he asks you to ship to a different address than on the BidPay #2 Approval Email, just alert BidPay to that & DO NOT ship until you get a THIRD "go-ahead" notice from BidPay!

You be SAFE & BP will NOT nail ya!

Oh heaven's no - I would never give out my banking information - not that there's any money in there???
Maybe this is why many won't sell internationally. I don't ususally offer international on large items but I forgot to uncheck it this time. Oh well - maybe he's just wealthy and has bank accounts in Switzerland??

If you ship Fedex or DLL to another country, you could get an unpleasant surprise: a large customs bill. I would ship it only through the USPS.

This sounds like a scam. Either sell it and ship it on your terms or relist it.

I agree with others, bidpay, cash, or no deal. If you ship USPS, be sure to register the item as well. Most international transactions are not this difficult. If they say they can not pay with bidpay but want to wire money, they are not on the level then...

Well he has paid with Bidpay and I am waiting for confirmation that his card is good. I will not ship until I get the money order in my hands. Is there a place to cash these or do you have deposit them?

ebayauctionguy
What do you mean - he has to pay the customs doesn't he? I'm not paying that's for sure. How can they make me after it's shipped.
Thanks

You may have to cash it at your bank. The PO only cashes postal money orders. You are doing the smart thing and I applaud you!

Log on to www.bidpay.com and register if you have not already. Go into your account and verify that the money order has been sent after the second email. It will be safe to send it at that time. The main advantage to registering is that you will be able to enter your name and mailing address which is where all future money orders will be sent. Sometimes, especially on international shipments where there may be a language barrier, it's easy for the buyer to give them the an incorrectly spelled street name or the wrong zip. This will protect you from buyer typos and the MO will come to your mail box instead of someone elses.

Fedex, UPS, etc. may bill you for the customs fees. You'll get the bill 1 or 2 months after delivery. I learned the hard way. With the USPS, you won't have this problem.

When shipping to Canada with UPS the Importer/recipient is responsible for all brokerage charges, duties and taxes.

It normally takes 4-5 days for bidpay confirmation and then another week for the check to arrive. I would be patient and allow the transaction to occur. Then you can take the check any where. I simply deposit all I get right into my bank account. Until you get the check, DO NOT SHIP. One of the scams going around is a bogus confirmation e-mail. If looks legite when you get it. It is not highly known yet because of the ebay and paypal scandals, but it is out there.
Good luck and be smart and patient.

Almost forgot, ship USPS only. You are the shipper, you get to pick. Not the other guy unless they pay extra for a specific service. Then you also pick how much to charge for the extra service.
