I recently had a buyer who's FB is private. This was a FP listing from last week on something I didn't sell before so I was glad to be rid of it with very little profit made. Anyway it is quite heavy and in my listing I stated that the shipping would be between $15 and $20, which I knew was over kill, but just so the buyer wouldn't have a stroke when I told them the s/h cost. The buyer lives in zone 7 so it is $16 for s/h. Actual cost is $14.50 and I add the other for labor, trip to the PO, bubble and peanuts.

The buyer freaks out that the shipping is so high so I email her with the description from the auction copied and pasted to remind her I stated it up front. She finally did pay but wondering if I have a neg coming from her.

My point is that her fb is private so I felt that something wasn't quite right from the start. I know I don't want to buy from a seller with private fb but what about the buyers? I'm thinking that maybe I should cancel any bids from a private fb. Has anyone out there had a similar experience?

interesting point, but I wouldn't cancel a bid just because you may or may not get a neg. I've sold to plenty of private fb buyers without a problem, I think most do that not because they like to give negs, but they don't want others spying on them.

I don't like it. However, ebay now reports the positive % anyway. I had a guy with private, but it was 100% positive. Could have been from five feedbacks too I suppose.

I smell something rotten in the woodpile here. Why would a buyer want to have private fdbck? I would hesitate to sell to them. I would rather sell to a newbie with 5 to 10 positives. Just had abunch of auctions go on Sunday night & 3 were less than 25 fdbcks. All paid through P/P!!

"Why would a buyer want to have private fdbck?"
If he/she were buying "adult" items, might not want the world/wife/husband/mother to know.

I'm with you Sanmar. I love the newbies! They get in bidding wars and pay fast. I have had a rash of newbies and it is a good sign that ebay is attracting new buyers. There are certainly a lot of new sellers also but thank heaven for the new buyers.

I just don't trust a buyer with private fb. Maybe they are a seller also but there is no way for me to know. My buyer has 24 positives with no negs or neutrals. She is a newbie also and maybe just buys weird things and doesn't want the world to see what she buys. What she bought from me however isn't weird. I just don't understand why anyone would want to make their FB private as it sends red flags up to most people.

if she is buying things she does not want others to know,or she has been filing too many paypal complaints or chargebacks,or blackmailing sellers or keep saying she did not receive the item, all kinds of reasons.

or worse, her checks often bounce and the sellers have to attempt deposit several times.
i know a buyer who has a small shop and he will buy on ebay, but he does not have enough money in his account.even tho he is nice about it,he slipped out and say -deposit fast as i have already written a few more checks.
