Hi all,

My son has some very nice suits that don't fit him (He took off about 30 pounds...) and he wants me to list them on eBay.

I haven't sold any used clothing in ages and ages. As I recall, eBay says used clothing is supposed to be thoroughly cleaned according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Has that changed? I've seen some auctions with disclaimers about odors, dust, smoke, etc., suggesting the items could be cleaned or washed by the buyer.

I'd prefer not sending a half dozen suits to the cleaners and end up not selling them. Would appreciate input from the clothing sellers here.

Thanks!

Thanks Horsey! I prowled around all over eBay looking for that rule.

Anyway, doesn't look like the policy has changed. I'm glad about that - it would be pretty disappointing to get something in the mail and have to clean it up.

I'll need to rethink the whole suit-selling scenario.

Why not have them cleaned after they sell? If they don't sell then you didn't waste any money.
You could just say that there will be a slight delay in shipping because of getting them cleaned.

Whatnot: What a great idea! So logical, yet so elusive.

Don't forget to add the cost of cleaning to your opening bid, or handling fees!

Hey Whatnot - I like that!

Dad, you're right - cleaning cost needs to be in opening bid.

Who knows? Maybe I'll be in the clothing biz after all. Better than those darn suits hanging in the closet, right?

Hey there, Lucy. We know a very stylish woman, about 75 now, back in Utah where we used to live. When my father died, I mentioned that I didn't know what to do with all his good suits and sport coats. She asked what size they were. And they were 'way too big for her. What she liked to do was get men's tweed jackets, for example, that weren't enormous, and have a seamstress fit them for her to wear. She said men's clothes are much better made and last longer, too. And of course she was right.

Sometimes I wonder if there'd be a way to connect with women who want to do that, via Ebay. Probably not. But it is a thought. Maybe someone in SLO. . . .
