I listed 50 postcards on Wednesday, another 50 on Thursday and another 50 on Friday.

I got 5 bids on Wednesday night, and another 6 on Thursday and then it all stopped. One item has two bids but the other 10 only have 1 and I have not had a bid since Thursday afternoon.

What happened? Anyone else slow or stopped? I was going to release another 100 tomorrow but think I will wait and see how these go.

Lindajean...I wish I could say that all the bidders were over at my auctions in a bidding war, but I think the answer may lie in the major glitch Ebay has admitted to in the search engine. Neglus has a thread running on this subject now. Hopefully it will only be temporary. I have several items up right now that should have a ton of hits and bids, but they seem to be invisible to the bidders.

I'd hold off. I've got over a dozen auctions closing and 0 snipes. I always get at least a couple.

I have never seen it stop like that. I know sales are slow and listings are high, but I usually have at least a couple of sales a day when I have this many running.

Thanks, I feel MUCH better now! Last week I was on top of the clouds with the number of hits my auctions were getting.

The last two days, hits have been so slow I was beginning to wonder if I should just pull the auctions and have a garage sale!

Put Buy it Now's on all my auctions and anything that didn't sell in the first 2 hours has languished with no hits. Very strange... Even tried a variety of goods to see if its was just one sales area that was slow.

They have to be able to find it before they can buy it. As long as search is not seeing the keywords in descriptions, it's gonna be bad. The ironic thing is, there are millions of bidders looking for things that they can't find who are probably as frustrated as we are. Ebay needs to make this a priority to get repaired because they are losing money also.

Bids are slow for me too..i list every day and usually I get some bids right away and then they trickle in..this doesnt seem to be happening EXCEPT in my foreign listings! Many bids on Italy site and new bids from Scandanavia...I wonder if Search is working on those sites and not on US (despite what eBay said about it being fixed)

Also..is there a power issue in the NE with the blizzards?? I thought all the snowed in people would be ebaying today..if they are, they sure aren't postcard shopping!

For what its worth, I remember thinking last year on Pearl Harbor Day ( Dec 7th) that I might as well take it easy until after Christmas because business had slowed.

Sales are usually way down for me to from now till Christmas, but never this bad.

Guess I will just keep making ads but not throw any out until I see something change. The week after Christmas has always been great. Hope that doesn't change.

I don't have a lot listed. On my ladies site I have a whopping 1 bid, but then I don't have anything spectacular but on the men's site where I sell ties I have only 3 bids and 2 are on one tie. I am going to stop listing until after Christmas. I don't want to pay eBay fees and then not get bids so I will enjoy Christmas and not worry about mailing packages and of course not paying fees.

Don't worry bids will go back up during this week's Holiday 1/2 Price Double Header Special. 1/2 Price Sub-titles & Gallery.

My bids are way down as well. I am getting bids on vintage items, though. I really thought it would be the other way around. There was a time when you could pretty much predict who was going to buy what and when. Not anymore. I went Christmas shopping last night and the stores were amazingly quiet. I got to park out front of a Target and didn't have to wait in long lines. Imagine, a Saturday night and at Christmas time. I understand that even the local WalMart is unusually slow. Unless people are waiting until the last minute, Christmas sales may be down for everyone this year. Too many layoffs is my guess. Over 25% of our safety forces here have been laid off.

I was out finishing up my Christmas shopping yesterday and the mall, Walmart and out stand alone Sears were all slow.

The news keeps saying the retailers are having a banner year, but Walmart had the slowest Saturday I have seen in months.

Damn Ebay! It never fails that they screw something up during the busiest time of year. The last few years was their "free listing day" that were always glitches. Now their search engine. Talk about lame.

Now I don't feel so bad. We are moving this week and I only had 1 item listed, which sold for the opening bid. I think I will concentrate on the move until after Christmas then start sorting out my jewelry. I didn't realize how much there was until we started packing. Definitely over the edge here.

This will be my 5th Christmas selling on ebay and so far it has been the slowest I have ever had. 5 years ago everything I listed sold and it has steadily declined. During the year I sell a variety of items but at Christmas I sell collectibles that people usually buy for gifts...dept 56, seraphims etc. Guess there isn't much demand for them this year. Of course, I overloaded on it this year so hope things pick up QUICK!!!

It's the slowest I have ever seen it.

I have had so many auctions end this past week with no bids and I start my auctions very low with no reserve.

I'm thinking of just taking a much needed break until after Christmas.

My auctions are slow too.
After reading the auctionbytes articles I tend to believe that eBay is experiencing serious difficulties. Difficulties that they are not reporting to us. They tend to report only those things that they know how to fix & that have a timeframe in which it can be fixed. It doesn't make any sense that sales would be so low with the snowstorm that hit the mid-atlantic & northeast this past weekend. People were stuck in their homes & at their computers. Couldn't go out shopping. Reports have said that internet shopping is supposed to grow exponentially this season...eBay should be up - not down or even flat. And it makes no sense that eBay isn't trying to correct these issues because their pocketbook gets hits hardest of all by lost revenues. Hopefully they will get it straightened out before it is too late for this season. JMHO

Ebay is by far the slowest that I've ever seen in my five years selling on the site. Even withoutout the search glitches I think there would be hardly any selling activity on ebay. It may be a combination of too many items and too few bidders and a weak economy.

I agree with ChathamSue!! Sales this weekend from the Northeast at least, should have been phenomenal. This was the perfect weekend for eBay shopping - plenty of time for xmas delivery etc..yet it seems that sales were slow across the board. That just isn't right...I don't think we can even imagine the depth of ebay's technical issues and we never will hear about them either. Reporting technical issues would mean refunds of listing fees and eBay isn't about to admit to them unless it is a system wide (and readily apparent) outage. "Little things" like search irregularities and area outages just are not getting reported. Could it be that the record number of listings has overwhelmed eBays capabilities? We will never know but I would suspect slow sales this past weekend, perhaps more than any other in the whole year, would point to technical problems and not to too many sellers, bad economy etc etc...SOMEONE would have had record sales in SOME category!

Well- here is one "question from seller" I received -looks like the member is from Virginia:
"I could not get on to bid for this post card. Are you going to relist it or would you sell it to me for the opening bid price?

14 years old? I thought you had to be 18 to register and sell on ebay. Or are they doing this under the teacher's ID or school's ID?

Interesting article. I'm from Abilene, Texas and my daughter and husband graduated from Cooper.

Edited to add:

I did get several bids yesterday and some multiple bids. So, things are picking up

I just have no idea what to make of it. As a relative newbie (about 350 sales since last March), the trend seems down. Fewer hits, fewer bids, lower end prices.

I sell mostly clothes, NWT and gently worn, as well as collectible pocket knives, and few other things. The very, very high end clothes are gang busters. The rest, just are terrible, in terms of end bids.

Go figure.

Neglus how can you tell the bidder is from Virginia by an ask a seller a question? They already gave you their address to sell it to them at opening price??/ Bold, man!

LOL now I had to go back and find the email to see why I thought that--it was in his signature John Smith XXX VA... just got another email tonight from someone who said he wasn't able to bid on one of my cards last night (he wants to buy a Massachusetts card)

Tonight I have a bunch of one bid wonders
I still don't things are "right" with eBay!!

I think I am going to slow things down until FLD. No use wasting good cards for single bids and all the listing fees for unsold items. Now the hard part is going to be pulling me off the computer!!
