Sold a widget last month. Auction closed 11/23. Sent an invoice the next morning. Never heard from buyer, waited 10 days, sent reminder, waited 3 more days & sent NPB notice. Still never heard a word. Relisted with BIN & sold it the 2nd day. Today I get a MO from original buyer which is dated 12/4. Post mark is 12/5. This means the jerk waited until he got the first reminder before getting the MO. I will probably get a neg. for this. If he had just sent 1 email, all of this could have been avoided.

I think I'd have done exactly what you did. I"ll be interested to know how you resolved all of this.

Mail back his payment. Remind him that you did contact him several time & he never did you the courtesy of replying, so you had no way of knowing that he'd sent it.

Sanmar: I say shred the money order, disclaim any knowledge of it and since he'll have no proof of you receiving it, he'll need to go thru the hassle of getting his money refunded from the issuer. That'll learn 'em!

Cash the money order. Use the proceeds to buy a case of Jack Daniels. Send a bottle to everyone who posts in this thread. Maybe then we'll be able to come up with a collective solution to your dilema.

Gee, Gosh, Golly Darn, but youse came up with some great ideas. Except I would rather buy Absolut. No I am going to cash the MO & get another one & send it all back, penny for penny. He pnly paid $21.25 plus 6.00 shipping. I resold it for $40.00 plus $6.50 shipping.

The final word. Buyer left me a neg. Said I was rude & inconsiderate!! Oh Well, the world goes on.

While getting a neg makes action (or lack of it) easier, in these cases I do not send back payment. Since I have to go through the hassle of relisting and losing money, I just destroy the money order or check, and that is that. I would not cash it, because you could end up creating a mess for yourself. I figure for money orders it is a hassle for them to get their money back, they deserve it.

By the way, thanks to fluffy, I have a new ebay policy. A customer who leaves negative feedback for me is considered the end of the transaction. I put that in my invoice now, I won't do anything for anyone who leaves a negative.

I would just return the money order. He can still cash it wherever he bought it (I think) and if not that would be his problem.

Ebay does state that the seller does not have to complete the transaction in the NPB notice!

You're welcome, especially seeing as I stole it myself from Gotham City Online. I think their actual wording was:

"If you choose to leave us negative feedback before attempting to resolve a problem, we reserve the right to accept that as final resolution to the matter."

Seems pretty sensible to me.

Amended to add:

I actually got email from a disgruntled customer who felt the universe wasn't moving fast enough to suit her (i.e. her package hadn't arrived yet). An actual quote:

"I WANT TO LEAVE YOU NEGATIVE FEEDBACK, but if I do, the auction says you won't do anything more for me. Figures!"

Yep, it's a great policy for dealing with the chronically impatient and the emotionally unstable.

I have been doing that since day one. They leave negs before communicating, it is over!

Sanmar:

At this point I would shred his money order and move on. His neg would have closed the deal for me. I have always had the 10 days to pay. I use to wait a month (if they said they were mailing one) if they were mailing a check/mo. Last Xmas I got tougher. If I have not heard from them or received payment in 10 days ( I do still give them a couple days if they mailed a check) I file the NBP and move on.

It hasn't been a huge problem for me, mostly half.com people which negative feedback is a fact of life no matter what you do. Why should I go out of my way to help someone if they don't have the courtesy to contact me first. We'll see how it goes, I like the fact your customer did not give you a neg because of it.
