Hi. I am so happy! I finally got my stuff together for the soldiers who posted to aintrichyet! (I also got me a new computer at a great price for those who followed my recent drama. lol)
Well I;ve included lots of 'Americana Stuff' for them. I hope its not too goofy, but to me when ya have "things" around you that remind of you home...you feel better! I am guessing they could buy what they want at the PX, so I've tried to send stuff I am pretty sure they cant there.
Anyway, I seem to remember that shipping to APO boxes was free (maybe that was when hubby was active?) I've looked on USPS.com, and of course, cant find out anything about it.
. Am I dreaming, or does anybody know if this is true??

Well, things have certainly changed. Items sent APO must have a form 29769 (the same one used for customs)little green sided form..content of package must be stated and you must sign the declaration. Delivery confirmation is not availible on APO -the military has very high security on packages. I have sent lots and had no problems Errrrrr on the "free" no no no .. it is not! Postage charges runs the same as any package sent from point A to point B.

Military Restrictions
For specific restrictions and mailing rates to an APO/FPO address, visit the Rate Calculator, just put in the zip code of the APO and the rate will show . You can also call 1-800-ASK-USPS, consult your local post office, or phone the Military Postal Service Agency at 1-800-810-6098

Thankyou, Deur1.
That must have been some time ago when they had that.
You think the PO would run a Christmas special on it or something to encourage people to send for the troops.
btw. Heard on news yesterday, the Post Office reported a surplus for 2003! They are in the black.
(Due to Ebay Sellers?) For all who kvetch about them raising prices on media mail or worrying about priority boxes...,they have no need to even think about doing that!

I think the people in the military get a price break on Military Mail. There was a recent internet article about some military people running ebay auctions part-time and illegally using the discount mail rate to get a competitive edge.

yes, there is free mail for soldiers writing letters, but sending to the military costs the same as other shipments.
Something to consider, media mail this time of year gets 2nd class treatment - It is sort of a room only thing, so a media mail shipment to an APO address may not get there til after the holidays.

Anyone know off-hand about insurance? We're sending my step-son a portable dvd player for Christmas and I would really like to insure it if we can. I can check at the post office too, just thought I would check here since we're on the topic of APO addresses.
