You know it's true - every year you get that one present that makes you look at the giver and desperately want to ask "Have you met me?". YOu know the one, that gift that has to be the absolute last thing you would ever want and could only be a either a cruel joke or evidence that the giver is suffering the early stages of alzheimers and had completely forgotten everything they knew about you when they picked it out.

For me this year it is a wallet (what is it with wallets - this is the second heinously ugly one I have received this year). It had got to be the most hideous thing I have seen and the definition of "not me". I laughingly described this vinyl thing with a silkcreened dog print, beaded picket fence, tree and basket of flowers to my mother this morning who after confirming that the giver was not an 8 year old, asked if the giver ever actually met me.

We all recieved one of these gifts this season....
What was yours? (and will it be on ebay later this week?)

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

I really lucked out this year and didn't get anything awful. My brother cuts and polishes Opals and you should see the size of the one he did for me. He's making it into a gold pendant. It's teardrop and nearly 2" long!

I'm the type who would use the wallet just because it's so ugly. I'd like the reaction of store clerks as I pulled the money out of it. I'd get a big old sweatshirt with a silkscreen dog on the front to go with it.

LOL, classicrock- who'd want to think about it?
My beloved best friend consistantly gives me strange and ugly t-shirts that are enormously large. I would use them for work shirts, but having that much flapping fabric is dangereous around power tools!
This year she gave me one that I like and fits nice, I was so surprised... I kind of gasped before I thanked her. She thought i was gasping because I didn't like it, and it took a minute to clear that up.. I do love her to bits though.

with a red hat that doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.

Classic - didn't you say in an earlier thread that you wanted one?

Cheryl - I'll trade you the Wallet for the Opal - I'll even go find you a matching shirt.

Dragon - LOL - How did you explain your shock

Mine was a bright red polartec pullover from my blonde haired step-daughter in DC. What the heck were they thinking?

I live in Florida, I have red hair. I look like a Christmas elf in red not to mention what happens to a body in polartec in Florida!

Anyone want to trade for nice Liz and Jane jumper??

LOL, Itray! Maybe she's hinting you need to make a trip to polar DC? All you need now is a pair of green stretch pants and then you could auction yourself off on eBay.

Cblev, Now I know what my first auction will be on FLD, lol!

If she wanted me to head to polar DC, she should have sent a full body suit. I freeze up when the temp drops below 50.

mine was ANOTHER phone from my oldest son...I now have a cordless phone in every room but the bathroom, and he bought them all! and we have two in the closet still in the boxes, that he gave us!

it used to be dishes, he bought me new dishes four years in a row. I finally told him I had enough dishes.

then he started on the telephones. I told him this year that if he wanted to buy me something, I could use a plasma tv in every room, but enough with the phones. he loves us though.
