Thanks for the smiles, thanks for the laughs, thanks for all the good info that everyone contributed here at Vendio. It helped me once again this year.

Here's hoping that 2004 will be a super year! Happy New Year to All!

Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and days of auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and days of auld lang syne?
And here's a hand, my trusty friend
And gie's a hand o' thine
We'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne

So what the heck does that song really MEAN anyway?

Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and never brought to mind?

Forget your old friends and never think of them.

"auld lang syne" Which means what in English?

I've always felt it was a stupid song. Now could someone please explain WHY?

lol @ 12pole and fenix.

Nero, I swiped the words from another site. Truly, I only remember about the first six lines and mumble the rest like all the other mumblers.

replay, it's always been called the song that no one knows the words to or the meaning of. Here is a site that explains it because they wondered also.

I wish all those in our "community" a very Happy New Year, and most importantly, may you all be be healthy in the coming New Year. Sales may come and go, business has it's ups and downs, but it all means squat if you don't have good health. Thank you all for your support and friendship, for the laughs and info we've shared this year, and may next year bring the same or better.

Main Entry: auld lang syne
Pronunciation: "Ol(d)-"(l)a[ng]-'zIn, "ol(d)-
Function: noun
Etymology: Scots, literally, old long ago
Date: 1692
: the good old times

SO..LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL!

Happy New Year Everyone..and don't let the bubbly cork catch you in the face (or someplace worse)...

A toast to the past, another for the present..and (hic) another for the future!

Here is an explination of the Scottish Poem set to music. Read farther down it is in english.
Verse Three
We twa hae run about the braes
And pou’d the gowans fine,
But we’ve wander’d monie a weary fit
Sin auld Lang Syne
Verse Four
We twa hae paidl’d in the burn
Frae morning sun till dine
But seas between us braid hae roar’d
Sin auld lang syne
Translation
(we two have run about the hills)
(and pulled the daisies fine)
(but we’ve wandered many a weary foot) (since old long ago)

(we two have paddled in the stream)
(from morning sun (noon) until dinner-time ( but seas between us broad have roared)
(since old long ago)

The most famous chorus in the World is so easy to remember:-

For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld Langsyne,
We’ll tak a cup o kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!
(For old long ago, my dear)
( For old long ago)
(We will take a cup of kindness yet)
(For old long ago)
This simple five-verse poem is for me, best summed up in one single verse, which is usually sung in the famous shortened version of the piece. Whether Burns himself wrote these lines cannot be proven. Either way, imagine these words being spoken by one solid friend to another…… and forget the song! Whoever wrote these simple lines surely expressed what many of us, all too often fail to say to those most important to us:-
And there’s a hand my trusty fiere,
And gie’s a hand o thine
And we’ll tak a right guid-willie waught,
For auld lang sine
(And there is a hand my trust friend)
(And give me a hand of yours)
(And we will take of a good drink/toast)
(For old long ago)
The “famous” rendition of “Auld Lang Syne”

For the entire poetical piece, as reconstructed by Burns click “Auld Lang Syne” However, should you wish the abridged and highly popular version sung throughout the world….it is as follows. If you would like to print off this version to make available to those attending a function where it will be sung….click “The Popular Version of Auld Lang Syne”

Verse One
As posted by our good friend Kiara. Here is the rest of it.

Verse Two

And there’s a hand my trusty fiere,
And gie’s a hand o thine
And we’ll tak a right guid-willie waught,
For auld lang sine

Chorus (repeat)

For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld Lang syne,
We’ll tak a cup o kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!

(Should old acquaintances be forgotten)
(and never remembered)
(Should old acquaintance be forgotten)
(For old long ago)

Chorus

(For old long ago, my dear)
( For old long ago)
(We will take a cup of kindness yet)
(For old long ago)

(And there is a hand my trust friend)
(And give me a hand of yours)
(And we will take of a good drink/toast)
(For old long ago)

(For old long ago, my dear)
( For old long ago)
(We will take a cup of kindness yet)
(For old long ago)
