Just got an inquiry from someone in indonesia wanting to know if they could buy something of ours [and do we accept credit cards, and can we ship it fedex to them] ... well, i already know i'm going to tell them that i can only accept credit card thru bidpay, but i went to the fedex website to try to get a quote to ship a large envelope to indonesia, and i canNOT find a way at that site to look up fee quotes! ... can any of you show me the link to look this up? ... thanks ... I can't answer your question but I can tell you that FedX carries heavy fees when delivering internationally. If the buyer doesn't pay them, YOU WILL. I never send international any way but USPS. There was another thread on this subject. You might want to check it out:

Cheryl ... but what if I quote him plenty to cover whatever the fedex charge IS, and i PAY fedex when i ship it ... just like we do with our usps packages? ... how can anything come back on you, if you pay fedex the money up front?

looked around there too toollady.. thanx ... found a 'rate' page too, but i see i need his indonesian "zip" type code and they haven't given me that info yet ... i think i'll just say, 'ok, i could sell it to you, but you gotta use bidpay, and usps' ... heck i'm already willing to bend on the shipping overseas part.

of course the way we are hearing all these stories about bidpay taking a week or more to 'confirm', i probably will have that to deal with too on this transacting.

thanks for your quick replies ... happy saturday to you.

When you tell them "you only accept credit card through Bidpay" there will be no need for the Fedex rate.
If you were naive enough to accpet the CC directly the Fedex charge would have been paid for with the CC. The Fedex charge would have come back to you with the chargeback for your item. About 99.9999999999999 of Indonesian credit card transactions are done with stolen credit cards.

This is a pretty big red flag to me. This person wants you to ship something in an envelope via Fed Ex. The reason for this is they want you to get stuck with the customs charges. Dump the fedex thing and ship via the USPS. Then the customs fees stay right where they belong. The buyers expense.

The use of the words "Indonesia" and "credit card" in the same paragraph should raise a red flag. I know it sure will with Bidpay. Don't expect a rapid approval from them. Also, since you specified Bidpay to the buyer, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for him to complete the transaction.

I had a guy try to get me to sell him a watch and send it to Indonesia.

I could not seem to get him to understand that sending a "Calendar Watch" to Indonesia was illegal. He kept asking over and over for this watch.

I figured, even if I did send it, it would not make it through customs and I would be out a watch. The particular watch I was selling was a watch with a built in GPS.

Here is the restrictions I found for Indonesia. Maybe the item they want you to send is also on the list.

Import licenses are required for commercial shipments. The following articles are not permitted in commercial shipments: articles of gold or silver, including tableware; pens and pencils ornamented with precious metal; calendar watches; linen clothing; natural silk goods; children's toys operated by steam or electricity; leather goods; coffee essences; and coffee substitutes; and molasses and sugar substitutes.

Thanks for all this input ... yeah, just the word INDONESIA threw out a red flag to us LOL ... perhaps I should ask them to send u.s.dollars concealed and sent registered.

The item we want to send is a canvas cloth advertising banner, about 2' x 3', which I figured we could fold up and stick in an envelope. ...

Don't waste another second thinking about this one. It's a scam....period....100% for sure. I get about 20 of these e-mails a week. My response always is:

.Hello,
I would like to do business with you, however I am not authorized to accept fraudelent credit cards from Indonesia. We can still do business though. Here is what to do.

Please place $5000 in U.S. cash in a box.
Write my name on the box.
Attach a long string to the box.
Tie the other end of the string to a very large balloon.
Bring the box and balloon to the roof of a tall bulding, like a prison.

Then, let go!!!

When the balloon floats to me, I will open the box, remove the cash, and send you your stuff.

Please confirm.

Well yes, then cash concealed, sent registered [or not; their loss] ... THESE things are WHY I just don't do overseas ... would like to think I could/should open our borders, but it just is such a headache in too many of the instances.

I've had a few potential Indonesian buyers.

They offered to pay way, way more than any reasonable price for the item, like $350 for an old, obsolete, used cell phone. Wanted to pay by credit card, not through PayPal but direct to me. Most of the time they wanted the item shipped to some relative.

Needless to say, when I wrote and said they would have to pay via BidPay or cash, they vanished into the Indonesian ether.

yes, they WANTED to pay by credit card directly to me, and then have it sent via fedex ... even though it's a potential $100 sale, I kind of hope they vanish into Indo ether LOL

... and they likely will ...
