I had a couple of customers ask where their packages are. They were mailed on the 5th going first class (small padded envelopes) to the westcoast from Ohio. They've still not arrived a week later. Anyone else notice slow USPS delivery or is it just me? Any suggestions on how long I should wait before panic sets in?

Hi CBlev65252,
First Class packages get shipped whenever the PO has time to deal with them (that's what my PO told me once). They don't consider First Class a priority like they do Priority Mail. I would wait a little while longer. I have noticed a huge delay in shipping when I mail to the PA area....I consider that the Bermuda Triangle of the shipping zone. *LOL*
What I have noticed is customers emailing me asking where their Priority packages are when they already have been delivered. *Pulling hair out* I just wish some of them would let me know what they found out....that would be interesting!

A package was sent to me Priority from Tennessee (to Ohio) almost a week ago and it still has not arrived. They did better over the holidays. Maybe they are all on a break?

Cheryl, I am waiting for a small purchase from the Midwest. Guy said he sent it out Jan 5th. Expect to get it sometime today or tomorrow. Not really worried right yet.

I always thought first class is 5 days tops, usually coming in at two or three days at best. Seems odd with xmas rush over.

Same here - I think it is the tail end of the holiday rush. Maybe the P.O. guys are wiped out from the holidays and are taking it easy now!

Edited to add: The IRS tax forms and W2s are going out - that's a ton of (unwelcome) mail!

There has been a lot of bad weather over the past ten days in many parts of the country. Parts of Oregon and Washington have seen unprecidented Ice and snow. My Sister-in-law lives in portland and could not leave the house for three days! She let the dog out and he took one step on the back stoop, started sliding and didn't stop until he hit the hedge about 75 feet from the house! Then my brother-in-law saw the poor dog trying to get back to the house so he decided to help. You guessed it, all the way to hedge. . The dog figured out to follow the hedge to the front door, while my brother-in-law slithered on his belly back to the back door. They wanted to get the dog on video so the tried to let him out again. No Way. He's a Border Collie and loves to fetch - anything. She threw a piece of ice and he just looked at her like "Ya right". She thinks that is the first time he refused to fetch. Smart dog.

Anyway, combine the weather with the post holiday blues for the USPS and maybe that is responsible for some of this slowness. There was no mail delivery for three or four days in Portland so if that is a hub some packages could be bogged down there

I received a small package from Indiana (to California) a week ago that took 11 days, USPS Priority Mail. I just chalked it up to the slow holiday delivery. The package also looked like it went thru a war zone...since it was wallpaper border, the product wasn't affected, though. Maybe the PO is taking a breather after the holiday rush or something.

BTW, cute story Don!

I can vouch for the ice here, I tried to get out on Wednesday, and slid down 4 stairs to my car. It was difficult to get back too. I went to borrow something from a neighbor, and had to slide my way over to their house. Things are back to normal, the post office had mail delivery on Sunday to catch up.

Ralphie is a-growling & a-howling over this one:

Mailed PRIORITY MAIL package on 12/22 from JAX to NYC -- last week start getting the WHERE ARE MY GOODIES emails!

eDC NOT scanned anywhere...

Lady is polite, but starting to grow hair on her chest & mentions the recent moon-phase...

Just got a HAPPY EMAIL from her tonight: the package has been SITTING IN HER PO x 12/24!!!

Gee, I'm so glad I upgraded her shipping to PRIORITY at my expense so she'd have the items for (next?) NEW YEARS??!!

Anything that was sent from 12-15 till 12-30 would be late delivery. For Gods sake, it was Xmas & ther were billions of pieces of mail sent. Don't expect miracles.

If your packages are late- GO TO THE POST OFFICE AND ASK FOR THEM!
I had a package disappear at xmas about three years ago- at the time I didn't know about this. five months later it wandered back to the lady who sent it... it had been sitting on a shelf at my PO all that time. My last two ebay purchaes- I had to go after them. Same thing. The (new) manager at my office was appalled.

Cheryl,
We are starting to get a ton of emails, also. We sent 19 packages out first class on January 5Th and only 10 of them have been delivered. People are hopping mad. I told them of the ICE storms here in Portland....but I smell my first negs coming on....I have 1275 Positive transactions, 0 neutrals, 0 negs. Wouldn't that be the way it is to get a neg for something completely out of my control. Worst of all, people are wanting me to send another item ($60.00) at my expense. I don't think so......UUUGGGHHHH

Actually, First Class DOES travel with Priority. It's a little dirty secret of the USPS that they don't want anyone to know. Why charge $1.25 when they can get $3.85 for the same small package?
