I know there has been various topics discussed on this -- I still need help! How do you stop outlook express from automatically downloading your emails. I have tried and cannot figure it out. I have people sending blank message with viruses. They put no sender name so it goes to the top and when I open my email it automatically gives me a virus. I have virus protection but it still is a pain. I am also getting lots of emails that look like gibberish but do not contain viruses! Does anyone know what these are doing??? I would appreciate any help! Thanks in advance! Frustrated with all the sabotaging idiots out there!

Try this:

- go into Outlook Express
- click on "Tools"
- click on "Options"
- click on "Read"
- make sure "Automatically download message when viewing in the Preview Pane" is unchecked.

Do you have it set up for message preview? I don't - that may be causing your problem...hope this helps!

Go to "tools", then "options" and then look at your "general" tab to see what is clicked and what is not. Look to see if "check for new messages every....." is checked...if so, uncheck it. If you need more help I will ask my BF when he gets in from snowblowing...he's the outlook express expert. I like to use Incredimail.

Stop using Outlook Express!! I quit it 5 yrs ago because it was so easy to get viruses through it. Haven't been sorry for it.

Thanks all for the suggestions! Nothing seems to work! Maybe switching is the only answer! Thanks!

Even if you uncheck the auto download feature, how is that going to stop the virus e-mail from coming through. It would seem to me that if you want to check your e-mail that you would have to download them all anyway. Just manually.
