I've heard of a number of people charging their customers the 2.7% Paypal fee plus the addictiona $0.30 per transaction in which Paypal charges sellers. I would like to know if any of your are currently doing this. And if you are doing how are you charging your customers this fee once the sale is finished....via automation services such as Vendio etc.

You cannot charge the fees to your customers!
A big NO NO.
You can adjust your selling price to include the fee however.

I've actually had sellers try to charge me paypal fees (usually a flat fee, say 50 cents) - In every case, I have gotten the seller to back down from this charge because I know it is against the terms of service of ebay and paypal to charge a fee (at least in the US) - I've never even had to argue with them, I just email them telling them that this surcharge is against the terms of service, and I won't pay it. I've never had to threaten anyone with going to ebay, I guess they know that is coming if they don't back down.

The ONLY sellers who can apply a surcharge are UK sellers...and then, ONLY to UK bidders!

The easy way around this is to add the fees in your Shipping & Handling fees. Nothing illegal about this. I have been doing this for several months.

I was charged a fee by a Canadian seller.

It surprised me, but I paid it and just decided to not buy from them in the future.

Edited to add:

Auction said: Wait for my email before paying!

The email requested payment information before paying.

When you tell them PP they added 50 cents to the total(and called it a Paypal fee) and then sent a PP invoice. Shipping was shown as $5 and went to $5.50.

instead of saying paypal fee,why not say cash discount of so much for the bidders who pay with check or money order.
make shipping 5.50 and then said if you are mailing me a check or money order, please take 75 cents off .

When a seller insists on charging you the Paypal fees and you really want the product there is an out.
Pay the regular amount on the invoice and then submit another payment saying "Paypal Fees" after you have received your product and feedback complain to Paypal, they'll reverse the illegal transaction.

There is an area auction company around here that 'gets around' having to pay for their credit card processing fees when the buyers use cc for their auction items ... :

they state aloud and in writing that 'there is a 3% Buyers Premium at the auction, but the premium is waived if paying by cash, check, or debit card.'

I've often wished most ebay sellers would get on goodwill.com's wagon of a 5% of ending bid amount handling fee ... it works for them!

Actually it is legal in most states. Even in California where PayPal and Ebay are located, if you go to any government site like the license bureau, they have a surcharge for credit card use. I personally ask for $1.00 to offset the paypal fees. If someone don't pay it, I consider it an optional payment and still send the item. I have to believe that this is fairly common though. I would say the 95% of the buyers do pay it no questions asked which leads me to believe that they encounter the fee often. 4.5% of the buyers do not pay the fee and simply send the base amount. 1/2% actually e-mail back stating they would not like to pay the fees and in most of those cases, they have a balance in their account and then I can direct them to my personal account.
