I was watching the debut episode of American Hot Rod (I am an unabshed American Chopper Addict - that family cracks me up!) and the owner is talking about the fiberglass bodies that they use and states that they are all made in Australia. I do not want to see this guys shipping bills! I'm dying to know what turn around time on these things are (On American Chopper it always seems to be about 2 - 3 weeks but the wait for them must be a few months now). First they have to come up with specs then send to Australia for custom fabrication and then they go on a boat? God forbid something is wrong (The hood in this episode is too thick and won't close but that is apparently a minor oops).

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

LOL Nero! If you only knew... My mother swears I should write a book someday but says that no one would believe that I have packed so many diverse jobs into such a short life. (Not that hard to believe - I am the worlds worst employee - I always know more than my boss and it usually doesn't take long for me to tell them ) As for my interests - check out AC on Discovery sometime (Monday Night) - you can't help but love a show that combines amazing design work with huge and conflicting personalities.

Nero - I was reading an article about the upcoming Superbowl ads and it reminded me of this thread. Apparently my interests are a bit more mainstream that one might think.
AOL will be using the Tuetul and their creations from American Chopper in their SB ad. The family is as crazy as their bikes are gorgeous.....
The is the "Fire Bike", a theme bike built to honor the fallen firemen from 9-11. Apparently the photo was taken before they unveiled the bike at their local fire department because there is one missing part. on top of the case tank at the unveiling the attached a bolt from the towers to the tank. For you bike enthusiasts - that mini fire hydrant on the side is a custom fabricated carb.
This is the Cody project. It was designed by a 15 year old kid they have working with them for school credit (he works during the day at the shop and goes to school at night) and the pic you see actually appeared in one of the bike magazines.

Thats the TLC network we're talking about, right? I've seen ads for that show but I'm not interested. I have to say, though, that if I'm idling and looking at TV, I check out QVC and then TLC because I am now TOTALLY ADDICTED to the Clean Sweep show, the baby's birth show--and even the While You Were Out. Lots of great ideas there, and when people see the finished results all they can say is "Oh my God" over and over. It gets to be funny; my husband calls it the Oh My God hour. One time in a hundred the person doesn't swear and says "Oh my gosh." If you start watching for it, it's hilarious.
I never fail to cry a few happy tears when the baby is actually born on the above-mentioned show. Sets me up for the day. ~Adele

Twelve - Sr cracks me up - first he complains that nothing is being done then when Paul is working he wants him to stop and clean up the coffee cups. And of course there are his pearls of wisdom such as..."What was was and what is is, and this, what is, is what's happening now."
Road - no American Chopper is on Discovery. It's kind of a cross between a disfunctional family soap opera and a bike show.
Check it out if you get a chance. Mondays episode they will finish off the POW/MIA Tribute bike but it's
Sr's project so you don't get the full effect complete with the family interaction. Wait till next week and see Sr and Jr interact for full humor effect.
In the immortal words of Vinnie.... YAHTZEE!

Fenix, cool idea for a memorial bike! Who sponsored that, AOL??
Adele, when I watch that show, I am always jealous of how easily they 'make' things -- heres a backyard canape in two hours, folks -- and I have go to home depot and buy stuff for my home,...lol!

Nero - no alot of the theme bikes are paid for just by OCC. They become advertising for the company that they take with them to bike shows thru out the country.
The Fire Bike was inspired by a child hood friend of the two sons who is a fireman and whose father died in the Towers. The POW bike was an idea of Paul Sr - the finished bike is amazing and the the rear fender has names from the wall including the uncle of one of the fabricators that helped create the bike. They have recently finished a Liberty Bike with copper from the Statue of Liberty.
They have created corporate bikes for Snap On Tools, Trim Spa (the Race Bike), Miller Welding, and a few others.
I have not seen anything about a custom AOL bike but I just saw another article that stated that there are actually a series of AOL commercials with the family.

Nero: Yes, I get jealous too. And I think that blond carpenter is a GOD. Isn't he darling? When my girls were small I sort of hoped they'd marry a doctor and a lawyer (to call on when needed). Now I'd give anything for a carpenter and/or a general contractor. ANYthing. It would be a dream to sketch what I want and have some guy just DO it.

If I had known about that little cutie carpenter on Clean Sweep before I moved I would have called them in for my place.
Oh well, I think the officials here would frown upon a "sidewalk" sale. It's hard to have a yard sale in the middle of downtown.
Maybe I'll turn in my mothers home office and never quite finished basement then go for a visit.
