In the past couple weeks our post office has installed greeters at the wait line. This does not bother me since they can be of help to the idiot that comes to the post office with a shopping bag and an address on a torn slip of paper. What bugs me is that every single day for two weks this same idiot has asked me if I am there to pick up a package despite the mail bins sitting at my feet. When I point to the bins filled with packages with customs and DC forms attached to them he then asks if I need any help filling out forms. Could I use the fact that this guy is a complete idiot as a justification defense when I finally lose it and just throttle the twit?

By the way - when I mentioned the tragic absense of a brain in the greeter to my favorite clerk she mentioned that it is a nationwide program and that apparently most offices have put the most adle brained employees in that position so that the actual staff does not have to deal with them.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Geez..you're rough. Don't blame the "greeter"...he's just doing his job.

Which reminds me, if somebody comes to the PO without their stuff pre-filled out, should they be allowed to 'move-in' in the line, then step out to fill out the stupid forms while we wait behind them? This annoys me to no end as I come there with all my junk done.

Are you saying that his job entails using absolutely no power of observation or common sense? Like I said - this has happened EVERY DAY for TWO WEEKS. In other words for two weeks he has igonored the existance of two bins of packages at my feet. He has failed even after being pointed in their direction that there are already forms on the and that they are filled out and he has ignored that we go thru this same process every day.

If you think it is being too rough on someone to expect them to actually pay attention. then you are right - I am just a big meanie. Don't expect me to change though. There is a big difference between "just doing your job" and doing a job well.

Boy are you lucky, at least you have people working at your Post Office. My local Post Office has laid a couple of people off recently. Out of five windows we are lucky to find more then one open servicing people. Between the hours of 1:15 P.M. and 2:15 P.M. the Post Office closes completely so that the employees can have their nap time. The window closes at 5:00 P.M., it doesn't matter how many people are in line or how long they have waited , The window closes and the business day is over. They wouldn't dare put a greeter in our Post Office with out riot gear.

Nero.... you wait? and your clerks allow it? The regs at our post office just move around the unprepared and the clerks generally wave the next person in.

a GREETER?... at your post office??? ... that is really cute!!! ... kind of like the Walmart greeters ... great idea. Whether they are helpful or not, they are nice to converse and at least exchange pleasantries with while you're waiting in line. ... And it gives them "a job".

But if you are set up with all your postage already paid and your DC's and paperwork in order, would be nice if you would set up with your postal service to 'drop ship' your parcels.

we get number off a roll at my post office,,,,the clerks say, Number 9, number 9, number 9.

The DMV is a REAL robot. A womans voice no personality to it at all, Now serving number 9 in space 27. Now serving number 9 in space twentyseven. A recorded voice. Over and over and over,,,Now serving number 21 in space 4B.

At the tone the time will be,,,,8,,,,21 in 5 seconds. beep.

The other day a NEW postal clerk sees my little thank you message on the package,,,,,that will be $4.50 for this package. What!!!! I send that same package many times it's always $2.50.....There is a message posted on the package Sir. $4.50 please. AAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! I paid it. She is a reg there now, shhhhhhhh, I tape it on the BACK now. None of the other workers EVER said ANYTHING about that message.

AND like the greeter,,,,,SHE is the only one who EVERYTIME in the same voice says,,,,Any bombs, explosives, terrorist weapons, yadda yadda,,,,

The others all just yell out when they see me walk in,,,,,,HIJACK!!!!!!! hashahahah.

Ain't - I have all my paperwork done but I don't have postage done. On any given day I may ship to 3 to 5 different countries (today it was Australia, Scotland, Germany and England) and quite frankly, it takes less time and effort for the clerk to weigh and affix proper postage than it would be for me to do it myself. It also eliminates any possibility for error. I don't mind going to the post office at all. It's just dealing with idiots that bugs me.

::Fenix....what if he really IS mentally challenged? you would still be asking this question? have a little compassion!::

Glass - considering that as I was leaving today he switched from greeter to window clerk I kind of doubt that he is mentally challenged.

Why should I have compassion for people who are lousy at their job? And why should I automatically assume that someone that is lousy at their job are mentally chllenged. That's just insulting to those that do have legitimate mental disabilities who generally take a great deal of pride in doing their job correctly.

At my post office (Chicago), we
have homeless people, drug
dealers, hookers and muggers
right outside the door. No greeters
here unless they are lookin' to get
rolled. My parents stayed here
for 48 hours and then they ran
back to Minnesota! They couldn't
wait to get out of here. Can't say I
don't blame them either.

Jack , if you can pass a criminal background check and read the test, you automatically go to the front of the hiring line. They give Vets priority over almost every other qualification, even if you have a disability.

My local delivery man was telling me this week that they can not hire enough qualified people fast enough right now. By the time they screen out the druggies and those with criminal histories, they have less than 50% of original applicants. Out of the remainder, no one wants to start at the PO beginning wage. Go figure!

At my local PO (and doesn't that describe the feelings of both the clerks and the customers), the "greeter" is the Supervisor of Window Services. i.e. He bosses the clerks. There's usually something I need, like a stack of tubs or a fistful of Priority Mail flat rate envelopes, so I have him run my errand. Maybe you could do that, Fenix03. Free labor, yeehaw.

At my P.O. in Miami, the clerks can't be nicer and of course they speak Spanish and English. One clerk can even use sign language. Its it customers who come in with an unwrapped package, expect the clerk to wrap it with P.O. supplies and then they stand there and address it and usually enclose a note with it. Meanwhile the rest of us wait and wait. We have no greeters as yet. If a vagrant shows up on the grounds the police are called and they escort them off the premises.

I see they are now going to pick up packages at home or business. Sounds good to me.
