Just had a notice from eBay of a BIN. The buyer registered on 2/3/04!! Now she wants
to know how I want this paid for as she is bidding on several more pieces & wants to combine for shipping. I wrote back & told her to pay for this piece including shipping & I will take this into consideration IF she wins more auctions. What would you do in this case?

Hi Sanmar...I think if it were my buyer, and if the other auctions were ending in just a few days, I may wait to see if she actually does win, and then combine the shipment. But if it is a week or so away, I'd probably ask them to pay now and then see what happens. I have had people do this too and it wasn't a problem for me to just hang out and wait a few days to see if they did win. I usually ship items that are paid within 2 days, so if the auctions she is interested in are many days away, she could be waiting quite some time to receive her merchandise that she has already won. I guess that's something you two will have to work out. But your note to her telling her to pay for this item now also makes sense to me.

Hi Sanmar,
Sounds good to me. No way to know now if she'll win any more of the auctions and it's better if she pays for this one up front including shipping. If she does win more then you can combine shipping for her if that's what you ordinarily do.
What would I do? Since I always combine shipping, I would tell her now I'll let her know the total of all wins and shipping charges after the last auction ends. Also that I would be holding her first purchase until the others end.
One more thought. It might be a good idea to let her know to pay for all wins in one payment.

I combine shipping all the time also. The nicer you are to them now the higher they are willing to bid on the other items(plus the thought of saving money on shipping gives them more room to bid)I'd ask her if they end in a week or less and if so just wait for 1 payment through pay pal or bid-pay (whatever your preferred form of payment is) So you don't have to pay the pay pal fee more than once. By asking she sounds like a responsible bidder cause I've had buyers not make contact for a week then buy what they were waiting on to combine shipping

I combine shipping all the time. I have 2 regular buyers who buy for about 2 months, and then pay, and because I can rely on them, I have no problem thinking they won't send the payments. You have to keep good records, I sometimes have 5 or 6 buyers carrying over auctions, and it's easy to get confused. I think this is part of the reason that almost 40% of my buyers are repeats.

To answer your question: I would promptly pay you and not bid on any more of your auctions. As you can see from the posts, there are other sellers out there willing to go the extra distance.

HEY!!! She has already paid with P/P & is bidding on at least 2 more items. Lucy, this was my thinking exactly. Of course I will combine all purchases & give her a break on shipping. I do this all of the time. As you know I sell a lot of china & it is heavy. I told her that I would combine her purchases & would bill shipping by weight & Zip Code.

The fact that she asked to combine shipping sounds like she knows what she's doing. Perhaps she's not really a newbie but just opened a new account? Just a thought.

Jiminy Crickets, Sanmar - she wants the whole darn set! That's wonderful. You only have to fiddle with one buyer. I hope she wins all the auctions.
Give me a whistle - I'll schlepp myself down your way and help you pack it up! LOL!

rocket, I would tend to agree with your assessment. But, some also browse for months before taking the plunge to buy -- and all you have to do is read about 'combining shipments' a few times to figure out it can work like that.

Well, she has another BIN! I just sent her an invoice & told her there were no shipping charges on this purchase ( Salt & Pepper set) Ya, Lucy it would be nice, but I really think that 96 pieces would be a liitle too much. Especially with price tag of $1200.00.

Hi Sanmar, I just had something similar, a new buyer feedback of 4 bought a buy it now, before I had a chance to send her a winning bidder notice she paid by paypal,I sent her a thank you email and stated the item would be shipped the following day. She responded that she had her eye on a couple of things that were ending over the weekend and could I please hold up the shipping because I state in my description I combine shipping. (she did seem to be familiar with the process, so I assumed this is a new ID.) I wrote her that I would be happy to do so, but I also wrote and told her if she is outbid I will just ship the first item that was already paid for, it she wins I would very much appreciate the fact that I could return her paypal payment and send her a combined invoice for all 3 items This way we both benefit, her saving on shipping me on paypal fees. I included a please shop my ebay stores as a hyper-link on the bottom of the email. She clicked on my stores and bought quite a bit from me.She also wrote an email back thanking me for letting her know that the seller will incurr the individual fees, and if I was nice enough to combine shipping, she will do her part for me on her end.

This gal is really serious about this Noritake 175/16034 china. She has bids on at least 18 more pieces. It will cost a small fortune to ship it, She lives in Alaska!!
