would someone tell me that i should know better; that this is the way reserve auctions end...i swear i dont ever remember seeing the following before; but i dont usually watch my auctions at the last term..

i cant copy paste this, so gonna have to type it, and hope you believe me...at 1 min, 41 seconds before end, i pulled up my auction, and placed right under the line: "you are signed in," was the following bold message: Seller status: Your reserve price of US $400 has not been met(although there have been bids)....also the highbidder email address now shows up next to user i.d --this is before auction end...as an adjunct to this, i closed 2 no reserve auctions at about same time, and neither of these show the winning bidder email address...

now back to the reserve auction: when auction closes the above reserve auction statment disappears, and now this is the message: "Unfortunately, your item did not sell."

..if i have been missing this, it is because i havent watched the last minute of my auction - and i know thats no excuse for not knowing what is going on...especially after watching the board today..

Hi: I'm not sure what's puzzling you. If you have a reserve of $400 on the item, people can bid like mad below that figure and the item still won't sell. Was that what was troubling you? Or is there something I'm missing? ~Adele

good morning> now you know why i wish i could have provided a copy...to re-describe, i have an open auction running... okay, one minute, 41 seconds to go-when i refresh the screen, a message appears across the top...RE: your reserve of $400 not met,etc...

..what i am not clear about::: why would this appear on the auction, and has it always been there...can only i, the seller, see this...i guess that might make sense, since i am signed in at that time...BUT, when the auction closes, the messages then disappears...

..and what about emails now being posted on the auction...my last auctions closed on jan25, and up thru that date, ebay did not post emails on the auction page??? have i missed an important annoucement...dont get me wrong, this is a good move, on ebay's part...everytime i need an email, i seem to have to shuffle thru paper, surf inbox for the email...

i ..am probably jumping to conclusions, but as i said, i dont have another reserve auction right now, and i have noticed this before..and since a vet answered this thread, and isnt apparently sure of the auction statement, then i wonder?!?

thanks for the help...myoldtoy

The upper part of the auction (like a light purple box) to which you are referring is only visible to the seller. Prospective bidders don't see it at all.

I can't recall how long ago eBay starting doing this - I am just used to seeing it. On my closed auctions, it does show whether or not it closed with bids; and if it did, email address, payment status (if paid by PayPal), etc.

Sorry I can't be of more help!

I have noticed the same on my auctions, You will only see the message because you, as the seller, are logged.

As for emails showing next to bidder name. I found an option in ebay sometime ago to turn this on. Have not looked for it lately, so can't tell you where to go. But I know it only works from time to time. Not sure why. Sometimes my auctions show the email, sometimes they don't. I love it when they do, because it makes it much easier to communicate with my bidders if I need to.

Bet that made it clear as mud

wgm: okay, great..my next reserve auction not even listed yet; i didnt want to wait and wonder..you kept me from having another senior moment...however, the email shows up on the auction before it closed..i got copies of the auction..so i am sure of this...

ltray: like you, the email address appearing is a great convenience...but unlike you, i not smart enuff to turn on the option...mine just happened! hope it continues.. finally, i thought email addresses, again being visible only to the seller, were viewed from the bid history...you say there is more, huh?

I just checked one of my active auctions, and the box is at the top of the page as well - with email address of current high bidder. I can only guess eBay has implemented this to make it easier for sellers to see status of the auction without having to scroll down, click on "bids" to see email address, etc.

Only a guess

Finally found it! Check your "Sign In Preferences" on eBay. You can elect to show email addresses when in a transaction with another user.
