I had a guy from Spain do a BIN for $700 worth of merchandise. He is having problems paying me through Pay Pal, Wester Union money order ect...... He wants to me take his card directly (with photo copies of his card, id ect......) I do not feel comfortable with it. Now he wants to do a wire transfer to my bank. In the past I have had a wire transfer with no problems but if i go ahead and do it with this customer, is there anyway the payment can "bounce"?

Since you have done this before I just do not see a problem with it as they can only put funds in your account but can not withdraw any.

Does your bank charge hefty fees for this or can you put the fees on your buyer?

I find it strange that they seem to have so much trouble paying via paypal etc.

For overseas deals I would sent them a link to bidpay or payingfast and let them pay that way. No problem for you with that as they are money orders that once confirmed can not be charged back.

This is the way I would go as its safe for you.

No - Wire transfers cannot bounce.

If your bank is like mine they will charge you a $15 fee to recieve an international wire transfer. Hardly a drop in the bucket on a $700 purchase.

BTW Trai - I have no problem believing that someone in Spain may have a problem/delays etc payong via PayPal - especially if they did not already have an account.

As for Payingfast - I would NEVER reccommend them to an international customer. I tried that over Christmas and it resulted in a no sale from someone who saw numberour red flags when asked to fax their identification and both sies of their credit card to this service they had never before heard of in the US. Two others told me they were asked to do the same thing and refused but found other ways to make payment.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

if your bank is a small bank, the payment may be coming thru an intermediate bank, that bank could charge a fee as well.
bidpay will let him use his credit card and charge up to 700 dollars, did you ask him to try it??

I called my bank a they told me it was safe. This is a new Ebayer and he says he tried opening a Pay Pal account ( I believe him because I sent him an invoice and it said he was a new member). I gave him links to Bid Pay, Paying Fast ect..... he says that he tried to for some reason he couldn't complete the sale.

I guess that paying fast needs to iron out some bugs then. I have had some overseas buyers use it but never said anything about having any problems with it.

My all time fav is bidpay.

I had a nightmare experience with a French buyer and a wire transfer she insisted on doing. I had to travel 40 miles to get my money, after numerous e-mails back and forth and huge delays. I now have written "no wire transfers" in my TOS for international buyers, mainly because of the distance needed to pick up the payment. If you've had a good experience in the past, go for it!

When i was working for the company we had a couple of direct to our bank wire transfers. They went smoothly.

We also had people send us Western Union wire transfers but i did not have to go 40 miles away. The office was 2 minutes away.

This will be the first time someone is depositing money in my account. I hope the credit is fast. I am not going to ship till the money is in my account.

Does anyone know how long it takes international wire transfer to hit the bank?

I thought that when a buyer is International, its not good to let them pay you with paypal.

So I have all my International buyers pay me with Bidpay........

Can someone clear this up for me ,....I just started using paypal, I also happen to like it but I am not sure if its good to use for an International sale.

You show great wisdom when you state that bidpay is great for overseas sales.

Like you I think paypal is a great service for xxnumber of dollars, but after that I like to feel safe and warm.

Overseas sales bidpay only.

tonimar,
paypal does not offer seller protection if you ship overseas.outside UK,our address authorisation system cannot verify his billing address when he pays you with his credit card.

My international buyers have successfully used Western Union wire transfers for years. If the amount was over $500.00, I would let the Western Union rep know that I was cashing it there so they had enough cash on hand. I never deposited it into my account.

I have also had buyers use international bank to bank wire transfers into my checking account and told the buyers that if they wanted to use that service, there would be another $15.00 handling fee added to their total amount due. (In Japan, there were no Western Union offices a few years ago so I waived the fee) I normally received notification in 2 business days from when the money was sent to when it was deposited in my checking.

I have received a few payments from Bidpay also. No problems.

I surely wouldn't want to receive a Paypal payment from an international bidder for $700, we have enough of a problem with Paypal and Seller Protection with shipments within the US!!!

minniestuff,
japan post office and canadian post office sell us dollar money order,it will be cheaper for them to buy you a postal order than wiring money.
you can take it to your local post office and cash it with your photo id.
