Have had pretty good luck as I pack my items in such a manner that it makes no differance how they handle it short of a nuke.
So far so good,
I count on the fact that they treat the mail like it should be kicked around. Make sure that there is no movement at all in your package.

If I have ever learned anything about packing fragile items; It is NO SHAKE RATTLE OR ROLL. If there is the slightest bit of loosness, it will break. I ship hundreds of pieces of china & rarely have breakage. I use polyfoam & double & tripple wrap. With small items I use peanuts. I over pack the box so that the top has a bulge when I seal it. Never a problem. Im qiut using UPS years ago. FedEx Ground is much better.

I had a DVD that the buyer claimed was broke in half. How can you break a DVD in half? This was a regular, store bought DVD in a hardshell case, in a bubble envelope, etc.

I didn't ask for it back, though I regretted that after I told her I'd send another one. Hubby said at the very least I should have had her email us a picture.

You pretty much said it right there. It was in an envelope. Sturdy cardboard would have most likely prevented this damage.

maybe she meant to say it was "cracked"
that would be more feasible

"How can you break a DVD in half?"
What was the movie? If it was Masters of Disquise or Gigli or something of that caliber, the USPS did them a favor....

LOL at eagleinc. It was a Yoga instruction video for kids. Her first email to me was the usual "your a fraud you sent me a broken DVD". So I emailed her back asking her to specify if the case was cracked or what she meant by "broke". She emailed back stating the disc itself was cracked in half.

ihula, its always great to be called names the second something goes wrong. The post office could run over the package you send but its always the sellers fault. I once got a neg because the post office broke a very well packed plate. The buyer got her money back from insurance but her neg said something like this. "The plate deserved a Fragile Sticker on the box".
MAY THE LUCK OF THE IRISH ALWAYS BE WITH YOU

Bigpeepa...At least they accused YOU, even if wrongfully, when they left the neg. My only neg reads "mirror arrived broken. Bad handling by FedEx. Not your fault". I gave that newbie a crash course on how the feedback system is supposed to work on Ebay.

Make sure your packages can survive a 6 foot fall. Last year, a mail carrier dropped a package marked "FRAGILE" over a 6 foot fence.

Hi ..... good thread...complaining to the postal authorities doesn't work...but professionaly explaining the challenges to the Senate Post Office Committee might.
After all, we are small businesses.
Here's the link...a committee hearing is coming up on Feb 24

They are receiving emails about the fact and fiction about track and confirm, breakage, and attitudes.

I just received a priority oblong boxed package (box provided by the USPS) with a huge hole torn open on the right side. Anyway, the seller had stuffed so much newspaper in it that the merchandise was still in the box but at the other end; nothing was lost.
