The news story was on the local late night news too. Gives ebay a bit of a credibility gap when the sellers pull these highly publicized auctions?

Ace - so tell us - how do you know that the seller pulled it as opposed to ebay pulling it at say ... the behest of say.... the FBI or the military? I'm assuming that since you have posted such an absolute statement that you have absolute knowledge.

And BTW - How in the world does an auction we all knew was going to die on the rails... (come on - the government is not going to allow that baby to be sold without some serious security checks) effect ebays credibility?

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

If the seller pulled the auction, it would show as a closed auction in the database. This one shows as invalid.

When I looked at it last night had over 260 bids (most were BS bidders)

When I read the auction last night, the seller had added that the FBI had shown up within hours of his listing it. There are definitely some questions being asked around the Pentagon this morning since these things have to be stripped before being aquired by a private party.

Thats the only way I would sell something like this....No Browsers!

Did see this story days ago on CNN. Have no idea how they got their hands on it but it is a real auction.

Like that MIG also.

What amazed me was that this wasn't listed with an approved list from the start.
This guy is certainly no rookie when it comes to high ticket items..
That being said, its amazing what you can do, even try to do, on eBay.

I'm scouting for some M1-A1 Abrams Tanks...figuring its a logical up-sale for those for whom a Hummer is just not statement enough.

Talk about putting a lot of faith in Ebay's search engine and featured listing. This thing is listed in the ham radio antenna category. OTOH, Ebay doesn't have an FA-18 category yet.

Where did the bear see 360 bids?? I just looked & there are no bids with a starting price of 2 mil. Anyone that bids on this plane must be approved by the DOD, FBI & the State Dept. just to bid. Not too many that will have the credentials & the $$$

Bear saw 260 bids on the previous auction last evening.

If you check that seller's completed auctions you will see that he had this listed before from Jan-30-04 to Feb-09-04 and last night's auction was a relist. The completed auction was in the same ham radio antenna category, sparkz.

He's had quite a few high end auctions in the last month and very few bids.

The first auction he ran (before the one that was pulled) states:

"The government made a mistake and wanted it back... The FAA told them the transfer had already been processed and it was to late... This is a 25m dollar airplane new."

This was the first auction.

I don't see that same info in his new auction.

Our daughter does consignments for ebay, and a fella approached her a couple weeks ago wanting her to list a 1601 Queen Elizabeth I cannon ... genuine ... wanted $17,000 for it ... but inquiring to ebay, they said, according their guidelines, they would not allow it. Do you think she should have asked more than 1 ebay rep the same question and maybe gotten a different answer? ... heck I would've thought ebay would want the fvf on something like THAT!

a 1601 Queen Elizabeth I cannon .

That would be a good one, however Ebay does not allow "firearms". LOL

Ain't rich, You will be if that sells. Don't ask, Don't tell. Just do it. You might end up on the NEWS too. And if it's against their RULES they'll just kill it and say, Don't do that again! End of it. Nothing BAD is gonna happen. I've had tons, well many items pulled. No biggie. A real person does not even notify you. Electronic.

Is this the same plane that was on the news the other night where it was added to the auction that " Some assembly was needed" ?They showed photos of the plane which was in pieces and I mean pieces and the current consensus from military experts was that the plane could never be assembled and made to fly again. Believe e-bay pulled the auction because it proved an embarrassment to them

Well this auction sure verified my feelings of the pre approved bidders list. hahahahaha. Worthless just as I suspected. We need a location of where the bidders are during the auction.

They had or even now have that feature instated and they still got TONS of worthless bids.

A location E bay. Block those Non reading bidders before you end up jumping through the NPB hoops and getting,,,,,,,,,Some,,,,of your money back.

Was shown with pics on ABC news two nights ago, I believe and with the comment that it could not be assembled and made to fly again. Maybe they were hoping some aviation museum would buy it.

That's no plane that's a pile of scrap metal. Talk about OVER embellishing....That auction WAS flat out lies. Pictures of soaring Eagles air craft,,,,,ha!

O.K. What IS interesting to me about this auction is the pre approved bidder aspect. Anyone ever use it? Ah, never mind,I am gonna make up an auction and insert that feature. I have hunch it's a REAL turn off to buyers. Place credit card or $5.00 is what I see at the very bottom.
