I just saw the new FEATURE e bay tacked on our auction page. Location. Most sellers with any sense already noted their location. Some do silly things like, The Sunshine State, the Windy City,,,etc. Most say the STATE or a nearby Major City....Which does give the bidder an immediate "picture" in their mind where the seller is and I suppose give them an idea of the shipping costs.....otherwise what was the point of e bay even doing that? On the OTHER hand wouldn't it be really valuable to SEE where the BIDDERS location is? I think so. If for No other logical reason, buyers see where we, the sellers are, We'd like to SEE where you, the bidder is. Awe gee e bay let's have some fun,,,,I get a bid,,,I look in bid history OR BETTER on their feedback card and See Detroit, Los Angeles, Dallas, Seattle, Salt Lake,Kansas, Oaklahoma, San Fransico, Boise, Iowa. can you now just imagine the excitement from the seller,,,,,HEY Iowa,,,,I grew up there to and now live in wherever,,,,Utah? Boston? Chicago?.........creates a deeper, just what e bay promotes,,,,Community f e e l i n g.....United States? What warm and fuzzy feeling do you get reading that? I know,,NONE.....Impersonal. Waaaaaaaaaaaaay to impersonal.

Let me try it this way,,,,,I got an e mail question from seller,,,,I went to THEIR auctions,,,,they ARE a seller too,,,,,I SAW their location,,,,IT WAS A TOWN 5 miles from where I,,,,,,,grew up! We e mailed back and forth a few times MORE than Normal,,,,,,We had Instant! connection! UNITED STATES will NEVER create that,,,,,,f e e l i n g......this person will more than likely BUY because of the c o n n e c t i o n they f e e l to th seller......United States,,,,Nothing p e r s o n a l there at all......

I agree, Jack. I've made some great temporary friends of buyers when I learned where they live and had connections there. I even connected a buyer's aunt with my husband's friend; seems they both went to the same high school in CA in the 40s. One of the bonuses of selling on ebay is "meeting" new people who are in our lives for a while, then gone, but we've been nice to each other and made our little corner of the universe a slightly better place. (Now I'm getting sappy, I know.)

Ebay should require that all sellers select the nearest city available on the ebay list of cities. Seeing locations like The Valley of Heart's Delight --United States is total BS.

Hey Jack,I sell mostly music from the 60'and 70's-Lps, cds and videos-I put in my location as "rock and roll heaven" which I that was cute.Now I get emails "are you located in

If ebay would require sellers to select the closest city then they will have to add a few hundred more options.
I used to list in the Milwaukee region and people from Milwaukee area were always bidding then wanting to pickup the item. (about 100 miles away) They don't understand that it was just the closest choice I had. I just use the state now and it fixed the problem. If you use fixed shipping prices why is it needed at all?
The other problem with listing the location is that people close by think that they can pickup the item. I don't like people coming around here all the time and meeting them is a big waste of time.
Bidders location is completely different. There is no reason not to show it since they will have to give it to you to get their item.
If the reason that ebay took the zip code away before was because of bidders complaining, they could make it optional that it shows but then give the seller an option to not accept bids unless it is showing.

Bidders location is completely different,,,You better beleive that one.
