I'm so sick and tired of dealing with non paying bidders.
I'm now running 200 auctions a week, with a 50% success ratio. In relation to my profit margins I take into consideration the other 50% of my listing which don't sell. However what I don't take into consideration when determining my margins are NON PAYING BIDDERS"..AKA DEAD BEATS, SLIME, etc...I hope I make myself clear!
What I want to know is how come 5 of the Non Paying bidder(s) alerts I filed two months ago, in which I was granted a Final Value Fee are still operating on Ebay. Two years ago I won an auction, and forgot to pay my seller, and my "ASS WAS TOSSED", from Ebay for about 1week. During that time I had to render payment to the seller which was rightfully so. W
What do you guys do about NON PAYING BIDDERS? I currently have 15 this month and the freaking list is growing!
Warmest Wishes,
RC

They have to be FVF'ed by three different sellers before they get the gate.

No Three Non Paying Bidder Alters were not filed against me and you are mistaken! After three NON PAYING BIDDER ALERTS, Ebay can suspend you for GOOD. I was not, and have not been suspended for good. What the hell do you mean when you state "Everythings perfectly Clear"?

This has helped me some...
I list on the auction page, payment to be paid with in 10 days of closing date. If payment is recd on / after 15 days, there will be a $3.00 late fee NO exceptions....
Feel free to try it.

I have alot as the area I sell in.. but does seem to help some what...so far

I think I have the most deadbeats around. I just filed for my fee's to be refunded from Vendio for the year of 2003... I had over 130 I do run 200 - 300 auctions a week.So guess that is not to bad... but it is a lot of wasted time.

eBay's policy for Non-paying buyers is:
eBay prohibits buyers from not following through with a buying obligation. We consider non-payment to be a serious violation of policy.

Action we will take:

First infraction: warning
Second infraction: warning
Third infraction: indefinite suspension

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/non-payment.html

I don't see anywhere in these rules that they boot you for a week for 1 infraction....hmmmm

My magic 8 ball predicts that this problem will continue to escalate as the masses continue to extract justice denied for 'indefinite' suspensions. They don't just go away, they get a new id and come back to haunt the filing seller. Anybody ever seen a snowball roll downhill?

In other words get use to it, the problem will just get worst. Oh, BTW, I'm just the messenger.

Back in the early days of ebay, this was true. But you must have been around ebay for more than a couple of years because it has been more like 4 years since that policy was in place. Yes deadbeats suck. It is just part of the territory.

PS: Have you tried the re-list from the deadbeat listing yet?

NPB do suck, however, you have to start considering the rate of NPB out there just like you considered your sell through rate. I am curious as to what you sell, because I posted a thread a month or so ago about the direct correlation between what you sell and the rate of deadbeats you end up with. Many people that sell high end collectibles, or items that appeal to adults over 40 yrs old, have a much better rate of NPB than those who sell items that appeal to the younger crowds. Example: People who sell CDs get hammered left and right with NPBs. It's a way of life for them, and you have to be prepared for it.

I would estimate that my sell through is 40% which isn't great, but I don't sell things that are really considered collectible. They are usually available on the open market still. Those who sell items considered collectibles, whether antiques, fine jewelry, etc will have a higher sell through, and a higher payment rate.

The information from everyone's input for that thread made me reconsider what I sell on ebay, and I am looking for other items to sell now. You have to be ready to evolve if you plan to succeed.

The crazy thing is I do infact sell collectibles and I have 25 non paying bidders this month! However after carefully figuring out the demogrpahics of my buyers/customers I have realized many of them are between the ages of 18-25...which spells NPB as your email elludes to.
Ebay for me is and always will be a "Stepping Stone", for my other E Businesses. I love Ebay, however I don't love the insertion fees, final value fees, etc which usually cost me anywhere between $400.00-$700.00 a month depending on how many listing I run, sell...etc.
Ebay "Took Down", all 50 of my listings sunday night becasue my chief competition who sells the same products I do.. "Ran Like A Little Baby", to Ebay and stated I was stealing his pictures! I will not/have not/ and never will steal anyones pictures, text etc! After througaly investigating the matter Ebay basically stated they were sorry..however the damage was already done.
I'm not going to "Bash" Ebay becasue I still feel it's a fabulous concept/company for those who wish to work from home...however... Ebay has witnessed so much growth that they have infact lost touch with allot of thier customer base as most big companies do.
I enjoyed your post by the way, and look foward to hearing from you again.
Warmest Wishes,
RC

You're right, bashing eBay won't solve the problem. 50 auctions, huh? Too bad.

I can see Ebay pulling one auction for an alleged violation. However, when multiple auctions are involved, they should provide the seller with a "show cause" ultimatum before shutting them down. In this case, they had to refund all insertion and extra fees and it probably cost them a big chunk of change not to mention the inconvenience to excelrye. I would think that they would take a case of competitor sabotage more seriously than fee avoidance, simply because it involves more money out of Meg's purse.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

I deal with model kits, and have a better than 95% follow through. I would quit Ebay if it were any lower.

Ebay has said it is just a venue, but it is beginning to lose it lustre as it gets more and more into casual buyers, who do not follow through at all.

I have seen a little increase in NPB, but nothing sigmificant

Sparkz,,,,,,Solution to this self rightious, self appointed e bay cops situation. E bay needs to impose a 3 DIFFERENT people complaint process. Otherewise the snieveler runs to e bay, says this auction is in violation and without any,,,,,show cause, as you mention or bother to look at OTHER auctions doing the same. Poof! As far as I am concerned this is just another form of auction interference. IF it's SO Horribly in violation certainly others would soon be reporting. Magic number 3. What gives these self appointed e bay cops the right to be JUDGE, JURY and EXECUTIONER of anyones auctions?
