Hi all,

I know this has been said time and time again in many threads but I feel it's important to emphasize it just once more.

Negs by themselves don't get rid of a deadbeat bidder. It's the NPB's and FVF's that do it. I think there may be some sellers who think giving a neg will do the trick so they don't file for their FVF.

A few weeks ago a thread was posted about the closing of Franklin Mint. In that thread Kiara posted a link to an auction for a doll that was getting bid up into the thousands. It ended over $5600. Closed on 2/15/04.

Just for grins I put the auction on my watch list. I see today the bidder has 16 negs from 9 different sellers.

My day-counting might be off but it seems if the sellers who were stiffed had timely filed NBP & FVF the bidder might have been tossed by now.

Here's the auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=15982&item=2986264107

I do feel very sorry for the seller of that doll and the other sellers who weren't paid. Of course the negs weren't there while the auctions were running so there was no way for them to know but I still feel sorry for them.

Lucy

Yes, if the sellers would have filed for their fees this buyer would have been toast.

I never leave negatives because as you can see by this auction it doesn't do any good but I do file NPB to get my fees back.

Wow, Lucy! Thanks for the update. I've had a few buyers that have been out of control like this one........ she won 200 auctions in one month.

Sometimes they do have the money but don't have the time to answer all the sellers and send out payments and they don't realize that bidding on that many auctions can become a fulltime job just to keep up.

Others don't seem to realize that their bids are a contract (hahaha) and they figure they can just forget about it all and keep bidding as they please.

Sometimes I think they should have to pass a test first or at least go through certain tutorials and answer the questions correctly before they're allowed out the door and onto a bidding page.

This bidder registered on 2-6 and her first auction ended that day. Even if the seller had a strict pay in 10 days policy, it would have been 2-16 when he filed a NPB alert and 2-26 before he could file a FVF. Her first few wins she paid for. As a matter of fact, she has 16 positives. It's quite possible some of the sellers are waiting to file as soon as the time frame allows. This person bid on over 250 auctions in 23 days and won most of them. Kiara, did you notice that she won another Franklin Mint doll from the same seller for over $1000.00? She's waiting for $6500.00 from a person who racked up 16 negs in one month for non pay. If any seller ever had an excuse to open a bottle of 2 buck chuck, this one does.

What is it with all these deadbeats? Until December of last year, I never had a one. Now, they are coming out of the woodwork. Have these people nothing better to do? Termites, all of 'em.

Yeah, Sparkz, I know. Hopefully there will be sellers filing. At least it looks like she's stopped bidding.

Maybe she just got caught up in the bidding and got in over her head. Not that that does her sellers any good.

Too bad it takes so darn long to file. Seven days for NPB then another ten days for FVF.

Like Libra, I seldom leave negs but I do file for my fees.

Seven days for NPB then another ten days for FVF.

And sometimes it's longer when they make excuses and occasionally they sound so legit I fall for it and give them more time.

Yes I remember the second doll, sparkz. It would be great if the seller did a second chance offer and it was accepted but how often does that happen? The worst part would be to get all excited about such a good sale and then have it fall through.

The second place bidder was the same for both auctions. They seem to have bid against each other in a few other auctions.

I once had a bidder that deadbeated on an item he won. When I checked his bidding history, he had registered and bid on over 600 auctions in less than one week and won about 500 of them. He paid for 2 and got positive feedback. His next three feedbacks were negs and then he was NARU. The three sellers that posted negs must have filed for their FVF immediately, but the deadbeat still was able to screw up about 500 auctions.

I've been saying that for a long time, too, Kiara.

Hi Sanmar,
For the most part, you'll are preaching to the choir.

From your other thread-"Anybody see the ad that eBay had during "West Wing"? I like the idea that eBay is spending some of our $$ to get more bidders"

I agree, this probably attracts some good business however, as Ebay continues with their presence and publicity more and more irresponsible folks seem to be finding Ebay.

These are the folks that have no problem with buying a prom dress, wearing it to the prom, and returning it on Monday. Or, going to Wal-Mart or Home Depot and buying tools, fixing the car, and returning the tools on Monday.

Unfortunately, the world is full of DEADBEATS and more and more are finding Ebay.

Apparently the third FVF has been filed with Ebay. The bidder is now NARU. 17 negs and nothing. 3 FVF's and you're gone.

Good. Now at least the remaining sellers won't have to wait for the FVF. Which in the case of the $5600 doll is not insignificant.

I have a newbe right now feedback 0.
Bid on 2 items won 1 mine.
As soon as auction closed she emailed me to tell me shipping was too high.
Soooooo why did she bid?
Would love to bring her to -1.
But I'm going to do the FVF and wait and see if she negs me first.

I think a lot more NPB's would be filed if ebay hadn't intentionaly made it such a cumbersome and difficilt task. Since there are so many low priced items on ebay where the seller only regains a small FVF from ebay and not the listing fee many sellers must just shrug off the deadbeats as a part-of-doing-business expierence and skip the time and hassle of filing NPBs.
