What are the chances that the seller has a license to legally sell the episodes? Also, I often see sellers of automotive items that sell charts and diagrams reproductions from car specification books on ebay. There's a lot of illegal stuff on ebay.

Regardless of copyright laws I don't believe the "chose what you want" type listings are not allowed on Ebay.

But then, I could be wrong since it is listed as 100 items.

Correct. The auction is illegal. Choice auctions are a no no on Ebay.

It is a choice auction and that is illegal but even if it was a single episode he has no right to sell the stuff. The seller is obviously making bootleg copies. Oh well, that's the beauty of ebay, you can make money illegally with little fear of getting caught.

And even if they weren't choice auctions, they'd still be guilty of copyright infringement.

There's no way this guy could be selling them legally. He's recorded them off TV and is now selling them. Definitely a legal no-no.

You and I know they are illegal. Buyers know they are illegal but eBay turns a blind eye to auctions like these. In fact they will never know about it unless someone turns them it. It won't be me but someone will in time.

The "items" are of no concern to me. The "choice" aspect is, and I care less about that either. Who cares??? I bid, I WIN his auction,,,,I tell him I want # 139 whatever that is.....How insanely STUPID to have to list, EACH and EVERYONE of these in Seperate auctions. Insanity?!!!!!!! In my mind! It's not like it's a CHOICE between a frying pan and a microwave oven. It's tiles of movies.......Or C.d's or records or albums or video tapes. THE SAME EXACT Item just with different titles....

The E bay RULE is stupid. BUT!!!!!! it makes E bay MORE money!

AND they are still making money,,,,,,,I picked # 139. The auction is over, they collect their fees,,,,He RELISTS and it happens all over again,,,,,,,,they make money on EVERY relist!

He may be selling illegal items,,,, that Is NOT my concern.

Choice of title name is, and I care less....e bay is losing NO money on choice auctions. I have 100 baseball caps,,,ALL with different TEAM names,,,,,,I have a list of names in the auction, the auction ends, the winner says I want the New York Yankees hat. What is the problem with that? If I had ONLY one NY Yankees hat I delete it from the list of hats. Of course if I HAVE a zillion NY hats I just relist the auction as it stands. WHERE Oh where???? is the problem??????

Just like Navy caps of different ships maybe?
Breaking ebay choice auction rules is okay?

This seller buried these items in a category that is not really appropriate and thus less likely to get caught by ebay. Tessa, I never ever look for items by category as there is usually many categories that overlap.

Caught by E bay? E bay catches no one,,,people, turn auctions into e bay for whatever they feel is whatever to them. E bay makes a decision to let it ride or kill it. No matter that a 1000 sellers are in violation (s). ONLY, the ONE Reported, is dealt with by e bay.

If,, you choose to turn ALL the violators in, you are required to give the Number of EACH and every offenders Auction. A blanket KILL is not accepted by e bay.

Oh,,,,4 years later here, I care less what anyone does. I learned about e bay NOT policing themselves 4 years ago when I was young and dumb. I had listed something that 100's of others had on e bay. Mine was poofed!

Of course being NEW I immediately protested! 100's of the same! Their reply was already mentioned above.

I purchased recently from a powerseller who sent something they taped themselves (a rare movie) - I got a refund, but they believe that Title 17 does not apply to out of print items. I don't think ebay will do anything about this.

Just so everyone knows, we have a little watchdog right on the boards here who has reported auctions for several years now.

So if you ever have an auction pulled for a violation and you've made your ID known here there's a good chance that this person has ratted on you.

Ebay does not get involved in copyright issues, they leave that up to the holder so as far as copyright goes, MST2K producers would have to file with ebay to have the auction pulled. There are however notorious lenient when it comes to tape trading or selling of episodes that have not been released commercially.

Then it's agreed. It's perfectly fine to break the ebay rules. The rules are stupid anyway. Who needs rules?

We all need rules but for someone to stalk fellow posters' auctions just to report each little freakin' infraction is stepping over the edge I think.

But it is ok for sellers to come in here and complain about bidders who break the rules on them?

LOL

Talk about double standards... and where is the fellow that was spouting professionalism...

Yep quite professional to post auctions that a seller knows is breaking eBay's rules...

WOW! I've been looking for some episodes, and for only $5!!! What a steal. I saw someone selling bootlegs of Northern Exposure for $300 for the complete collection. These were obviously bootlegs because of how he described them as being taped from their original release with commercials. I tried to play along and asked him if these were illegal bootlegs. There was never a reply even though I emailed him a second time.

But, for those of us who have waited to see Northern Exposure, they are releasing the first season on DVD on May 25!!!
