I just came back for a 3 days 600 hundred mile buying trip. Because I also sell furniture, I pull an 18 foot trailer behind my truck and use a lot of gas. I get about 8 miles per gallon. The high gas prices are cutting into my profits both on and off Ebay. On my trip I saw about 40 dealers and pickers I know in 3 states. Everyone except 2 said the economy in general and now the high price of gas has hurt business. Several said they are putting higher prices on their stock, 4 said they are quiting some shows because of the high cost of gas and lodging plus the show fees. I stopped at a couple quote Antique Malls that were full of just low line junk. Overall I didn't see much enthusiasm or sales no matter where I went or who I talked with. I also stopped at a couple truck stops and if you want to get an ear full just ask an over the road hauler what they think about the price of fuel. One trucker told me there is a joke going around the truck stops that explains it all. He said that he saw a Department of Transportation official on TV say that the "White House is aware of the high fuel cost and are very concerned about it." The trucker said he thinks that is a true statement. He said Bush and Cheney are aware of the high fuel prices and so concerned that they check on their oil stock prices 3 or 4 times a day to see how much money they are making. HA HA

Everyone knows that at the start of the vacation season everything that has a price tag rises. Hotels, Motels, restaurants and especially GAS because they have to get to their destination.. Everyone wants a piece of the vacation pie and of course eBay sellers do also, so what's the big deal. Nothing new from what has happened the past 5 years or so or have you forgotten....

It's a good thing the tree huggers won't let us drill in ANWAR, gas would be $1/gallon and our President would be lossing money with all his oil wells.

What price did you pay, Big?

I fill up with gas maybe once or twice a month. Costs me, oh, $25-30. The other day, mid-octane was $2.28 a gallon, I think.

I guess the price of gas just isn't a really high priority for me.

Lucy,
I paid $157.9 in Maryland up to $176.9 in Pa. I use regular gas. If I am loaded in hilly country I can easy burn 50 to 60 dollars a day in gas alone.

Libera63, you said "Everyone knows that at the start of the vacation season" gas goes up. I didn't know the start of the vacation season was the first week of March.

walhalla, you are only half right, its not only the "tree huggers" its also the GREED AND MORE GREED of the well to do.

stopwhining, you are so right the good stuff is getting very hard to find.

Two years ago my husband and I bought a 33 ft. motor home so we could go on buying trips out of state and not have to pay for a hotel room and it would save on dog boarding expenses as well. We pull a mini van and get about about 8 miles to the gallon and now that gas prices are getting so out of hand, it would almost be wise to start staying in hotels again. We can easily burn $100 worth of fuel in a weekend and when staying at a decent campground in New England, that's another $40 to $60 per night - unless you're one of those folks that stays in the WalMart parking lot - NOT! Kinda puts the skids on our plans for out of state buying trips. Guess we'll either bite the bullet and pay those high prices to get out of town or fight the locals at yard sales in town. I only hope the predictions of possibly $3.00 per gallon in the summer are wrong! Anyone want to buy a nice used Holiday Rambler motor home?

Come out to California for a couple weeks and drive around in the foothills. We have to pay $2.25 a gallon. You'll rush back home and kiss that guy who sells gas for $1.57 a gallon. I agree with you though. It's a 10 mile trip to FedEx for me and I head that way as soon as I receive payment from a customer, whether I have one package or a dozen. I'm usually out there 4 days a week and I noticed the jump when I got my most recent credit card statement. I may have to open up my handeling charge and see if I can sneak a fuel charge in there between my beer and cigarette charges.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

Hi all,

I guess I'm paying the highest price for gas of anyone who posted here. At least I don't have to fill up as often as you do. My sources of eBay inventory are right here in town.

Like Sparkz says, come out here for a while. You'll be glad to pay the $1.65 or $1.75 or whatever.

San Luis Obispo is pretty small - maybe 5-6 miles across no matter which direction you go. So I'm lucky. I live right in the middle. Post office is a mile from me, FedEx is 2 miles away.

I feel for you guys who are spending tons of money for gas.

Lucy

Do you keep tract of your expenses and aren't they tax deductable? At least part of them are.

In Wisconsin our gas $1.75 and probably will slowly rise to $2.00. This has been happening now for many years as I stated in the other gas thread you started.

On the subject of Motor Homes I am sure two years ago isn't any different than now. I know they were expensive back then and at that time it was cheaper staying in a motel. We planed a vacation to take a motor home. Scratched that because of low gas mileage of motor home, high gas prices, price of camp grounds and the availability of conveniences. Gas has been high for the last 4 years or so.
