I just received a Postal Money Order from someone. There was nothing but the money order in the envelope. I assume it is pmnt for a auction.
I have received these before, but this time the amt doesn't correspond to anything I've sold.
The only thing I can think to do is write him to find out why he sent me a money order. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Max,

Take a look at your eBay bid histories. They show the zip code of the buyer. Maybe you can put it together that way.

Hi Max,

Hey - glad I helped!

I wonder if he added the $1.30 for insurance? I've had that happen when I was sending something FedEx, which includes insurance.

I would bet too that the extra $1.30 is for insurance - USPS insurance for up to $50 value. Did you give him the option of getting something insured?

Why would anyone send money with no note, explanation, copy of bidding page...nothing??? What were they thinking...oh, that's right...they WEREN'T thinking.

I had included insurance in the price of shipping. It's part of my winning bidder notification, and EVERYTHING I sell is insured. It's also stated in every auction.

but this newbie is trying to do everything right...why don't you put a little note in the package explaining that the shipping was delayed because he forgot to include any auction information with his payment? maybe you can save the next seller a little grief.

Good idea Rarriffle, here's a copy of the email I sent---
Hi xxxx,
I received your money order today, and your syrup will be in the mail tomorrow morning.
There will also be a check for $1.30 with it. You overpaid me by that amount. ALSO......
You never replied to my first contact email which asked you to email your shipping address. When I received your money order, I had no idea what it was for, as the amount was wrong and I didn't have your name or address on file. Also, you didn't enclose any information in the letter. I was about to write you a letter asking what the money order was for, when I checked your zip code against the zip code on the eBay printout. Please in the future, give your sellers the needed information.

P.S. Lucy, sorry I couldn't give you credit for finding the right buyer.

I like the ones that send money and don't send along there name or address. Shows how stupid people can be.

Lately I've had lots of money orders in envelopes with no hint of what it's for. I can always figure it out, because I print out the first two pages of every auction and also save the information in the notice from Ebay to the seller (last name and initial, city and state). Thank God the P.O. postmarks envelopes!

But hey, it could be worse, right?! Better to get lots of money orders than not to be selling, I guess.
