This continues earlier posting. Sorry to be so long getting back to you. My System Information says - MSIE V (Unknown) Build 54522.1800. This probably is not enough to help you and I cannot seem to find the version ANYWHERE. Have been in touch with compuserve techs and have researched as they've advised - to no avail. Problem which I described earlier persists (cannot access these sites EVER!) I'd appreciate any ideas you or others may have. Many thanks!

twelvepole might be right. but need more info. Are you running a PC or MAC? IE ver 5.0 should be ok. BUT I have some other thoughts going through my head on this. Like I said, need more info on your computer:
IF a PC- what version of windows??? To get all info I need on your computer, right mouse click on "My computer" and then click on Properties. the info I need is:
windows version
Processor
memory
If a MAC - I need the same type of info
What is your OS (on a mac, just click on the apple at the top right corner of the screen and there should be a selection towards the top that says something like "about this computer" It should also tell you how much memory you have and your OS (operating system) version

Shopchicly, I think you are looking in the wrong place but I think i have the info. You have a Pentium I computer with windows 98, 88 megs ram and I believe compuserve is your internet provider - - - Does that sound about right? If I'm right, your computer is just a "tad" slow. Which is fine.
One more question because I can't remember if compuserve is like AOL or not. I think it is. AOL doesn't use a straight browser like internet explorer or netscape, it has it's browser built into it's software. (They call it an "imbedded" browser) I think compuserve does the same thing.
Can you use a browser by itself? or do you need to use a "compuserve" browser???
I need to know this before we can go on. If this is confusing, don't worry about it. I'll do some checking on this too.

I believe Compuserve works like AOl. You actually have a full blown version of IE5 on your computer, but it is being accessed by the CS interface..sort of a remote control operation. You could have a problem with the CS interface or with Internet Explorer itself. Your best bet would be to install the latest version of Compuserve. The advantage to this is that it will install IE6 and will import all your bookmarks and favorites from the old version. This will be in a seperate directory so you will be able to delete the old version later if you want to free up disk space. Before you do anything though, I would suggest downloading and installing a copy of Opera browser. You will then be able to log onto CS, minimize CS and start Opera and surf the net. You may need to do this to download the latest version of CS if you don't have a CD and can't download via your present version of CS. Also, it's a good idea to have a second browser on your computer, such as Opera or Netscape just in case you run into compatability problems with some websites ( such as Ebay). It also simplifies troubleshooting on possible future problems.

Hi, I am sorry I did not see this sooner, I have been real busy and Have not had a chance to get over here. I have Compuserve windows 98, this is recommended for windows 98, go to system information, click on utilities tab, click on clear browser cache until all the numbers are 0 (zeroes), then under that click on unistall internet adapter, you have to re-start your computer and it will start a new browser for you.My email is [email protected]. this should help.I am not going to be home most of the day but I will get back to you as soon as I can if you have any other questions

No I didn't, however if I worried about every little bit of spyware that comes along... I wouldn't connect to the Internet at all...

Twelve...I've had very good results with Opera. I never mess with the Beta versions, though. I wait until the bugs are ironed out. Opera has a setting where you can emulate Mozilla, Netscape or IE. I have one vintage 486 computer that I sometimes use for image editing. It has Windows 3.1, Aol 4.0 and Opera 3.62 on it. Believe it or not, I can upload images and launch auctions from Vendio with that machine when using Opera.

Hi all! Well, it's solved and I'm back to getting around to necessary sites just wonderfully. Upgraded to Compuserve 7.0 (took a long time!) and I love it, so far. After some of you mentioned it, I decided to try it before any other possibilities, since it was something that might benefit me otherwise, whether or not it solved my particular problem. Can't thank you all enough! For a computer novice like me, it was wonderful to find such knowledgable folks willing to share their time and expertise.
Feel good about yourselves - you're much appreciated!
