I've considered starting my own store front instead of using ebay or vendio's system. Approx. how many pages can I get with a 25mb site? Anyone else do this? If so, what are the pros/cons of running your own site? And finally... What problems will I have with Ebay if I want to link it to my own site?

I just did one. Right now I am using 36.6 mg. My provider allows for a full gig. If you want to see what took 36.g mg, www.kcskorner.com.

You can check out my links. There's one for a site that sells terrific store templates along with the shopping cart and the administration.

Edited to add: You can't put a link on your auctions to your own store. I believe that you can put the link on your Me page.

you can link to a page on your site which tells more of your item on ebay but not to sell any item.
there is also a two click rule, you can find more info from ebay .

The amount of pages depends on the amount of space your html, images, etc take up. If you code is bloated or your images are not optimized, it can really take up some room.

One of the pro's to building your own site is that it won't look like every other ebay or Vendio storefront. I like the Vendio ones more, myself, but needs to allow more tweaking.

One of the cons would be the extra work you'd need to do to promote your own site. A little elbow grease (or maybe it'd really be knuckle grease) you can both generate traffic from your auctions AND from outside ebay.

I had my own website for a bit. If you're selling mass produced items, I'd recommend using OSCommerce (though you'd need more than 25mb probably). It's free and full of features. The default template is ok, but with a little work, you can change the basic look to something that fits the general color scheme you want. You'd need a host that supports PHP and MySQL. If your more of a one of a kind seller, OSCommerce would be overkill, IMO.

You can have your webstore hosted on shoporium for $20 a month, no per items fees no final value fees and you can use the same software to load items to ebay or your shoporium shop. look at auctionsubmit.com and shoporium.com for the details. Nice easy solution. about the only other thing you need is a place to host your photos are there are many good options including 100 Meg on pair.net for $5.00 a month

you should use oscommerce - it definately makes the best looking easiest to use oscommerce sites. Just pay someone to install it and you can rent a website fore 5-7$ a month.

I tried oscommerce and found it to be a nightmare. Everytime I updated an item, it would disappear and I have to put it in again. Their customer support was no support at all. It came as part of my hosting package.

OSCommerce doesn't have any real "customer service". It's a free, open source application. I believe the people who work on it do it for free, but I may be wrong.
