Hi, all. I'm wondering if I should have an About Me page, after all this time. Please tell me if it has value for you. I just looked at its possibilities and am intrigued. I don't have a website, though, to link to.

Do you include a picture of yourself? How much personal info do you give there? Do you worry that it might be misused by someone? Is it worth the effort? And what sorts of things to you disclose about yourself as a person or as a buyer?

I keep one. I have some cool looking photos and links to my auctions at Yahoo as well. Yes, you can do that from your about me page.

I wouldn't put any personal info there though. You only want auction winners to have that info, not the scum of the earth.

Does the about me page ever get looked at? Hard to say, but no one has ever told me, nice about me page before.

I would go ahead and make one, but don't spend a lot of time keeping it up.

I have an about me page and in it I have my Canadian and International bidders guarantee in it and I link from my TOS to my about me page. I am sure it is working because I don't receive any more emails from Canadian or International bidders like I use to.

Hi all,

Yes, I have a Me page. Just a general hello, this is who I am, a picture of me and some elaboration of my TOS. I try to keep the TOS in my auctions as short as possible.

One thing in the Me page is a statement about item condition. I did it after someone returned a leather purse complaining that it smelled. Which it didn't but I refunded anyway.

Here it is:

Although many of the things I sell are from my own home, some are not. I don't always know the entire history of an item and therefore cannot guarantee that it has always been in a pet and/or smoke free environment.

For this reason, particularly with leather items, if you are sensitive in either of these areas - please write to me before you bid - I'll be happy to share what I know -
or perhaps you would prefer to refrain from bidding on the item.

As far as whether it's useful, I have no way of knowing how many people have looked at mine. Hopefully they do. I always look at Me pages.

Lucy

As a buyer, I cant remember ever really looking at a "me page", but the few times I have looked at some for whatever reason, I cant recall if that made any difference to me. Although I do recall thinking some were entertaining or creative, I dont really think it effected my buying? But as a seller Roadsmith, I too, have been wondering if it makes a difference to anyone?

I've never looked at a seller's About Me page, either! Wouldn't it be great if that page had a counter so we'd know? I think for the present I won't bother.

Thanks for all your thoughts on this.

I have one, have had it and updated it, it has been up for years, and I had a counter on it at one time and found it gets hardly any traffic.

Personally, I don't ever look at a Seller's "ABOUT ME," page, as obviously it is created by the seller and is seller self promotion, which is okay, but why read such?

I would do one, just to have a "complete" look on one's eBay ads, but don't expect much from such.....I personally think they are pointless.

Pointless? I don't agree. I have one and although I don't have a counter I've never had to worry about my pictures being deleted from VD because everytime I look they've always been viewed recently.

If they have a ME page I usually view it. Most are uninteresting but there's a few that use it to their advantage.

I just asked my gf recently if I could move most of my TOS off my auctions onto my Ebay page and she poo poo'd the idea but I'm still thinking about it.

Yup, don't believe that eBay drivel 'bout me maintaining it, though. They lie, they won't let me. I look at them, most are as interesting as drying mud. There are some gems out there.
