I am so ticked off ... our auctions are set up for u.s.a. only, but a Canadian inquired if she may bid/buy a $110 urn ... i checked usps website to make sure we'd be able to 'insure' a shipment there and found out that was do-able so i told her, 'ok, you can buy if you want to' ... she paid thru paypal and we shipped on march 6th ... she is now concerned because she hasn't received the urn yet. i told her please be patient and not to worry too much because it IS insured against lost-in-transit or damage ... she said she wants to have 'all her ducks in a row' as far as using 'paypal buyer protection' which if she is going to use that, she needs to make her claim with them WITHIN 30 days! ... i'm so upset, because with this being postally insured, we can't have it traced or make claim till AFTER 30 days. ... somebody give me a pill or sumpthin'... PLEASE!

HOWEVER, my point is, even if this had gone to a u.s.a. resident, the Buyer can only file a paypal 'buyer protection' claim WITHIN 30 DAYS. .... But the postal people won't do anything till AFTER 30 days ...

aintrichyet, your buyer hasn't given it enough time to arrive yet.

There are thousands of packages sent to Canada and most of them arrive quite quickly but the odd one does get held up at Customs so if she doesn't have it by next week ask her to check with them, at the moment it's too early for her to start to worry.

Like Tom says, for a $110 sale it would have been better to accept Auction Payments or a postal money order so it's something to consider in the future.

I don't know why she'd need 'buyer protection' if it's insured TOO ... it is boiling down to she is just a royal PITA customer who happens to be a Canadien, eh! bah!

okay, i took a pill ... i'll stopwhining now.

but it's still quite ridiculous that paypal's 'buyer protection' can have any trigger-happy buyer clicking that get-in-seller's-face button WITHIN 30 days, irregardless of whether or not it was sent insured [which for lost in transit things, cannot be pursued till AFTER 30 days]

Stoooooooooooooopid.

i dont know if this would work-
empty your paypal account and stop accepting future payment until she receives her urn and tell paypal to null the complaint.

Just a quick thought. If your buyer proceeds with the PayPal claim, when the 30 days is up, perhaps you can file a postal insurance claim on your end for "non-receipt". It would seem to me this would prevent the buyer from getting an item for "free" plus you can notify PayPal of the postal claim. Also, wouldn't your insurance receipt prove to PayPal that you had sent the item?

Sorry you're having to go through this. What a pain!

GERNERALFUNDS,
PAYPAL offers no seller protection on overseas buyer.
if she files non receipt with usps, she needs the buyer to sign the form.
if buyer signs the form, she is committing mail fraud if she has already signed for the insured package.
and dont forget there may be customs duty involved,so there is another piece of paper trail.

GeneralFunds: regardless of ANY PROOF one may have -- & I don't care if ya have a VIDEO & AUDIO of her signing for the item & cradling it to her BOSOM -- if you ship OUTSIDE THE USA & THE BUYER COMPLAINS FOR ANY REASON WHAT-SO-EVER...

PP will YANK the moola out of YOUR Account & YOU HAVE NO RECOURSE at all!!

You can have a marching band welcome Ed McMahon at her DOOR with FOX NON-NEWS filming & YOU are STILL SCREWED!

MORAL: do NOT accept PP from non-USA bidders unless you are willing to EAT THE LOSS!

Paypal is authorized to take the funds from your BANK account or Credit Card if there are insufficient funds in your PP account. Read the user agreeement.

If he took a $110.00 insurance on the urn doesn't he have proof because the insurance claim has the address on it and requires a signature. Does PayPal accept that as proof of mailing?

Libra: even if INSURANCE were trackable online (& the last time I checked, it twern't), SO WHAT??

Since he shipped to a buyer with a NON-USA address, the SPP is void & the seller is SCREWED!

etc, etc,

As I understand it, PayPal can no longer yank money out of your checking account. Your PayPal account will sit with a negative balance until someone deposits money into it.

Cheryl,
What gives you the idea that Paypal is no longer going to be yanking money out of people's checking accounts? Has there been some story somewhere about a change in policy?

i think it was november 2001 or 2002 when paypal changed the policy where new members have to agree to allow paypal access their bank account,i have never heard paypal reversing the policy.
please dont nail me on november 2001 or 2002,look it up yourself.
this is no different from the merchant account policy, your provider can access your account when there is chargeback.

sheesh, again ...... my sing-songy 'ducks in a row' buyer is going to definitely make us change our tune ....

we check with our postalmastergal and she said nothing shows in her 'puter yet, AND with no rhyme or reason she sees Canadian deliveries lately taking 2 weeks to 8 weeks to show up .... in the same day, my canadien buyer says she checked with her postal system and found out the package is moving right along and is in missisauga already and she is excited to deliver me news soon that she has received 'item' ... ... ... how come she can find that much info and our usps cannot? ... ... ... ... also checked paypal fine print to see how to opt out of 'buyer protection offer' [which is a completely separate thing at paypal than 'buyer complaint process'] and it states the instructions of how to phone-call paypal to opt out of that, which they say really makes buyers more confident to bid on your items. bah! .. if something cost more than 40 or 50 dollars we usps insure it, so why in the world would we want a buyer to be able to submit ANY concern to paypal which requires a before-30-days process?! ass-inine ... will be callin' that number at paypal real darn soon ... how absurd!!!

PayPal BAAAAAAD Never from international.

Now that that's out of the way, how did you send the urn? Meaning did you send it air mail (7-10 day delivery) or did you send it ground shipping (6-8 week delivery). Piece of advice. Never, ever send international items slower than air mail. The longer it takes for something to ship drammatically increases the chances of damage and lost packages.
