I know absolutely nothing about collectibles and even less about doll collectibles. So I'd really like to ask someone in the know if something like what I'm about to explain can ever become a collectible. I can crochet elaborate doll dresses and outfits that fit a Barbie doll (or even that size doll). Would these dolls ever become a collectible? Would it be worth making one and listing it on Ebay to see what it would fetch? As always, thanks for all help and opinions.

You don't know until you try it. I would give it a whirl and maybe you'll be able to get some repeat business from people who want more, more, more of your speciality.

Good luck!

take a look at some of the rare shirley temple dolls from 30s and 40s ,the big ones they are selling on ebay, most do not have the original clothes.
why not spend time dressing up these dolls, you may get more money than dressing barbie.

This thread has me thinking. I have an old tin container loaded with old doll clothes that I picked up at a garage sale last summer. Here it sits because I don't know what to do with them. Some look REALLY old. They remind me of the clothes that are still on the doll I have that was my great great aunt's. We are talking OLD

I have a friend who has a new and antique doll store. She looks for old doll clothes to sell on eBay and gets amazing prices. One thing to look for is a label. If is for something like a Ginny doll I know they go for a lot. She recently sold a little pair of plastic labeled doll shoes, not even perfect, for $76! So check the labels, people are looking for nostalgia, and outfits to fit their old dolls.

i know a doll seller on ebay who knows dolls, she would list a doll item specifying what doll, what height .it sure helps the doll collectors looking to dress their dolls.you know big doll has big feet and small doll has small feet!!

Bizzy, I have a friend who is also an avid crocheter. She has made 12 of those dolls - 1 for every month. Some like to decorate guest rooms with them sitting on the bed. Maybe rather than all 12, just seasonal ones or themed, like patriotic, fall, winter holidys, Valentines, St. Patricks. Good luck and sell them as a set. 1 doll interchangeable dresses.

Good luck.

Thanks for the great ideas. I think I'll give it a go and see what happens. I have patterns that fit a barbie sized fashion doll (11 1/2 inches). I will have to look for patterns that fit the larger dolls. I browsed Ebay yesterday to learn more about dolls. It seems that the Berenguer (sp?) reborns are very popular. Perhaps I can offer doll clothes to fit them?? I think I can even adjust the baby patterns that I have to make them smaller to fit a preemie or Berenguer doll. Some of those dolls are really life-like. The artists are VERY good!

Clothing that fits American Girl doll is a pretty safe bet. Most that fit American Girl also fit Cabbage Patches.

Thanks for the tip PClady. I can get patterns that fit cabbage patch dolls. I don't know what size doll that is, so I have a bit of researching and learning to do on this subject. Just what I love! A new challenge!

What about layetts for baby dolls. When the material is on sale that is the time to buy. Watch JoAnns they have sales all the time. Do you have a hobby lobby around you, they have some great material. Also try the remnants that they have. Walmart has some very nice material also. You might think about branching out into doll shows. The collectors are always looking for new things
