I'm done with internationals. Just received my second, we never got your package after years of no problems.

Other than file with the post office any suggestions in figuring out if a package ever made it to the country?

Since he Psychic Firends Network has gone belly up I'd say it's safe to assume that the only avenue you would have for researching this would be the one you used to ship.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

I would just apologize and follow your TOS for this...

If you give refunds, send one; if not then don't...

call the post office, ask for an international department. They will give you the general parcel number, from there you can track the package and get the phone number for your customers local post office and customs office. Two of my packages were stuck in customs for a month.

The PO keeps the customs slip stub for 30 days. If it hasn't been longer than that maybe they can help.

In my TOS of my auction I put a clickable link to my About Page to read my Canadian and International Guarantee. In there is states.

CANADIAN AND INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS
I will happily sell to you but I want you to read my guarantee before bidding. I will not lie on Customs Forms. As insurance is not available for Canadian or International sales I can not guarantee delivery. Please take this into consideration when bidding. Postage to Canada is approximately the same as in the United States. All International Sales will go Air Letter Post unless buyer wishes Global Priority. if you abide by these Terms of Service please bid. Thanks

I use to have them email me before bidding but lots of times I wasn't home so this is why I said that and I will stick by that. If they don't read it thats fine but I try and spell out everything I can. I do have to say I have had no problems (knocking on my head)

I sent a Japanese tea set to a buyer in Malta. She paid for airmail, and it took almost 3 months to arrive. I kept asking her to hang on, because I had read on this board of other late arrivals, especially in Europe. I mailed a booklet in an envelope to England on the 30th, and it arrived yesterday! The check from Western Union has not even arrived yet.
Who know why some take so long, and other are quick, I think it must be customs delays, but don't give up and refund too early.

The one to Greece I should have tracked because it was a fairly expensive order (about $200).

The one to Germany I refunded through Paypal but when he wanted to "try again" with three more items, I said: "I don't think so, thanks anyway".

Bottom line is unless it is tracked we have no recourse to charge backs or PP refunds. I do have a postal receipt and the PO has the customs form, so maybe that will be enough for Mastercard, but I doubt it.

Thanks for listening!

Just ship global priority if they want it they will pay the rate otherwise sorry, do not ship the cheap rate their is no tracking, and it takes forever, so your on the loosing end, doing lots of refunds etc. I've had a few problems one with an incorrect address and finally got the item back, Italy has no global priority service, and takes a while to get there, global priority is the only way to ship, this eliminates the problems, if they want it they will pay the price and you have some tracking.Overall international is good money, why turn down a sale and use the www.usps.com web site for your info and restrictions we don't have a problem. Happy selling

there is no insurance on global priority mail, but you can get private insurance like from U-PIC.
First class mail is not that bad,may be 1-3 days behind global, but you can take out insurance.
paypal rates from intl payers are higher, canada is 1 % more, japan is worse.

How did you ship it?

First rule of international shipping is to never ship any slower than air mail. In most cases, the parcel will be delivered in 7-10 days. Anything slower and the chances of something getting lost or damage goes way up. Priority is good, but spendy. Air mail is basically the same service and often is cheaper than the slow way.

General rule of thumb:

NO PAYPAL FOR INTL SHIPMENTS

Reason: not traceable online so can be reversed at buyer's or PayPal's pleasure up to 180 days later.

Use a non-reversable payment method such as money order, bank draft or IBAN transfer and you are no longer at risk of losing the merchandise and payment.

Sent out package to Germany on 11/12/03 they received it three weeks ago.

The buyer had left me feedback in December, so I thought they had received it and was stunned when they contacted me in February.

She thought I was nice so left me the feedback before getting the package.

I think my mailman must have walked it to the East Coast and then it was rowed across the Atlantic.

At least my buyer was honest and let me know she got the package and wasn't even upset. She had already told me she didn't expect a refund because it wasn't my fault if the package was lost.

Compared to my Florida buyer who wrote me a very nasty note about not getting her package. Got great feedback after I sent a note telling her USPS Delivery Confirmation showed it was delivered two days ago.

Not Dragonfyree Anywhere But Here.
