I am tinkering around with listing start/end times AGAIN! I'd like to hear from buyers when they are most likely to do their "shopping" in the spring/summer: early morning before work, at work around lunch time, after work before dinner, during tv prime time, just before bed, in the wee hours or...???

Thanks for the help!

Never--------Well not never but very seldom. I shop when I feel like it. If I come across something I like I bid. I bid what I think it is worth to me. If I am outbid so be it. I am not a sniper. There is really nothing I need. What I need to do is get rid of . I don't want my daughter to have to have an estate sale and have all those voltures scarf up my prize possessions. I want to get rid of them myself. Neglus you would have loved the estate sale I went to this past weekend. Postcards galore. I was late so I didn't get any good ones but I understand there were lots and lots of them. Mainly Milwaukee, Kenosha and lots of greeting card. Postmarks were in the 1900-1910. No bent corners. All postally used with clear postmarks. How they got through the mail like that is beyond me. I understand someone bought over 2 hundred dollars worth of Milwaukee cards and they were priced at $1.00-$2.00. None higher.

Neglus, thanks for asking this question. I will watch the answers with interest. I am about to list an item of my sister's for which she has high expectations. I plan to list as a 10 day auction ending on a Sunday afternoon. This is a vintage china collectible that is not common. Does this seem like a good/bad/"don't make no never mind" time to end?

As a buyer it does not matter to me when an auction ends. I search for the things I buy every day and put in an eSnipe (yes, yes I know how some of you feel about snipes) as soon as I find an item I want. When I was still doing manual snipes and working 9 to 5 I hated auctions that closed during work hours or my commute time.

Ditto on thanks for the help.

OH DARN! They sound like great cards but that's a little far for me to drive for an estate sale!

Matter of fact, I haven't figured out the estate sale thing...whenever I go to one, it seems more like a garage sale and the stuff is usually so gross I don't even want to touch anything! Postcards (if they are advertised) are in a shoebox and musty and in terrible shape..just doesn't seem worth the effort of getting a number etc etc. I thought that it would be different if I chose sales in the "nicer" areas but it just seems the prices are higher and lines are longer!

I usually shop "going going gone" when there are lots of items, so the ending time really DOES matter for my shopping but maybe I am alone in this.

Good question! Can't wait to see other's answers.

Most days I wake up (get the brain functioning) by browsing my "Saved Searches" from eBay, which arrive in e-mail, every morning between 5am and 7am (PST). Then stopover here (AW) for a quick peek at the goings-on and topics being discussed.

If hubby opts for an old-time movie on TV in the evening, I'm back at the computer 'shopping' between 7pm and 9pm. (Hmmmm... Maybe that's why he's not been so interested in those old John Wayne movies lately. He hates dragging all those boxes home from the PO Box!)

Hubby and I are retired, the kids are grown and gone, and physical limitations restrict my activities these days. Ebay has been a great out-let for contact with the outside world and a means for shopping for some of the things we need.

When I shop, it is usually around early morning, 6:00 a.m., or early evening, 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. That's when I find bargains! So, if you want maximum bidding - don't have your auctions end at this time! I have found with jewelry that afternoon and mid-evening catches most of my bidders. Some people bid at work, some after dinner. It's tricky, due to the time changes. Can't imagine why people end their auctions at 6:00 a.m., but they do.

I shop whenever but that is because I don't sit down and look for things to buy. When I realize there is something I need or want, I look it up on ebay. I bought spindles of DVd's a 3 this morning but I would not recommend that time

I have tried closing auctions at just about every time under the sun (some of them accidental when I forgot to schedule) and have found that 8pm PST seems to be the best overall. If I were doing a SUnday closig I would go maybe an hour earilier since this seems to be a very popular closing time and day so moving it to the front of that window might help it from getting lost in crowd. for browsers.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

photo: End your auction opn Sunday evening. A lot of people check out auctions in the evening. I have been ending my auctions at 11:30PM PDT/PST. I run all of my auctions on the 10 day cycle. Have been doing this for 3 yrs, & it has worked well for me.

I think there are two types of people:

People who work
People who don't work

Some of the people who work only have Internet access at work. Some of them only have it at home. Some have both.

People who don't work obviously have fewer constraints on their time.

The answers you get may be colored by the type of item being sold.

Were I you, I would ask my own customers (who are proven postcard-buyers) when they shop, what age bracket they're in, what household income braceket they're in and whether they are male or female.

I have stayed away from Sunday morning and evening because in all my growing up years we went to church twice on Sunday. Not sure how many do that any more. Come to think of it we went the church on Wednesday evening too.

I am interested in this too (as a seller)? Don't you think it depends on what you list too.
I know a lot of dealers buy here and sell in their shops??? Any out there that want to let us know when you bid?
Thanks

I too only impulse shop. If I need something I'll look it up right away day or night before I forget.

Photosensitive: I too went to church twice on Sunday. Actually more than twice on Sundays, and I was the church organist too, after 7th grade was over. Dad was the minister. We lived next door. Our whole lives revolved around that danged place. We had to go to every service, sometimes 3 or 4 a week.

Now, to get back to the question here. I browse for something I collect in the evenings between doing things I don't enjoy or when I get tired of listing, editing, etc., and I've read all the Vendio threads I'm interested in. No particular evening. And that's interesting to me, because that may be what everyone else does too--browse when they have a moment, rather than certain days of the week.

Good idea here, to ask the sellers when they look. That will work if you sell the same types of things over and over.
