I am considering a new policy of selling. The TOS will state that bidders can pay after receiving the items, if they like it. Otherwise, they can send it back.

Winning and paying is contingent upon the bidder being satisfied with items received. That way, it will be like a 'brick and mortar' operation.

I think bidders being able to 'have confidence' in the Ebay system is key.

I wonder if this would work. Any thoughts?

In order for this scheme to be truly effective (that is, achieve the high degree of customer satisfaction you seek), you must offer overnight delivery as well as all the usual options.

And it would only be fitting to leave feedback when you ship. Anything short of that would be grossly unfair to your customers.

Don't forget to offer the 60 day "trial" period and the lifetime warranty as that helps build confidence.

Let us know the results of your experiment.

Robbie,
I think what people are saying is DON'T DO IT!!! You are bound to lose. But if you insist, why not try a week of auctions on it then decide? I'm pretty sure no one here has tried this so you are not going to get an "experienced" answer.

Bidders feel confidence dealing with a seller who has a good FB rating!!! Work on that.. I hope you are just pulling our legs otherwise you are just asking for it!!! Give your stuff to charity if you want but don't let people steal it??

Actually there was a seller who sent things out before payment. He posted on here when it was Auction Watch a few years back. I just looked him up, and it looks like he doesn't do it that way any longer.

But, if I remember right, he did say 99% paid right away.

I wouldn't do it, but some feel confident enough to I guess

Actually, to assure customer satisfaction it sounds like a good idea. However, you've overlooked the weakest link in the chain, and that's UPS, FedEx and the Post Office.. They can take an otherwise perfect transaction and turn it into a nightmare. To assure that nothing goes wrong and to insure 100% customer satisfaction, you should load all your sales for the week into the back of your pickup and spend the weekend delivering them yourself. It adds that personal touch and if they don't like the item when you deliver, you can bring it back and relist right away.

Not in a million years. I have a couple less than honorable buyers that I have dealt with in the UK. These are people that paid, got their items and then filed PayPal disputes claiming they didn't. How do I know they got it? Because as soon as I enter the customs number (yeah yeah we know they mean nothing but apparently not everyone does) they suddenly recieve the item and drop the dispute.

Now, these are people that have paid and still try to pull as fast one, what are you goin to do when they haven't? How do you collect on the itemyou have shipped and they have decided not to pay for?

To put it in a simpler way to understand... if this was a reasonable and profitable way to do business, don't you thing there would be more examples of it being practiced?

When jerry12 left, the night of the big exodus, he posted an email address.
[email protected]

Wouldn't that be something if he just showed up someday.
Maybe he will.

I don't know what I can add to this but after a bottle :2 Buskc Chuck" I had to make an observation. Fools are born every day, some tilt at windmills, others think the world looks better with pink glasses & some trust all of their fellow men. The cynics do none of the above & trust no one including themselves.
