I saw an item I was interested in on ebay but needed more info; I clicked on the "ask seller a question" on the auction page to send the email.
I immediately recd an email in my inbox which said:
We are very sorry, but your message was not delivered because we don't
know who you are. The ever increasing amount of spam (unsolicited
commercial email, or "junk email" has forced us to take extreme measures
to protect our subscribers from being inundated by unwanted email.
Please help us by letting us know that you are a real live person.

There was then a highlighted link to clink on to reply, which I did not do.
I've never seen this before and use the 'ask seller' feature fairly often. Anyone here familiar with this function?

The seller has a fly by night ISP who is too cheap to develop or purchase a true spam recognition system. They block everyone until they jump through the hoops to get in. I don't know if he realizes this is happening, but I would go through the process and let him know that he's losing bids by subjecting prospective customers to this nonsense. You might suggest a Yahoo or Hotmail account for his Ebay business until he can change to another ISP.

It appears to me that you didn't post the complete e-mail for us to look at. My guess is there is more in the e-mail. Especially of it came back from earthlink, it is likely legite and you will have to click the link to get the e-mail to go through.
