I have a question. When someone does a search in Ebay, and they put the word "dresses" in, would anything with the word "dress" also come up? In other words, does it search for the whole word or parts of the word. Same thing with "pattern" and "patterns".

If you want to search for all the forms of a word use the * for example Dress* will give you a search of any word that has dress in it of course you will get hits on stuff that has nothing to do with dress or dresses! eBay's search covers many common plurals, words like truck & trucks, not sure how it does on es endings.

Add the asterisk to search for derivatives.
If you put in " dress " you will only get things with that exact word.
If you put in " dress* " you will get those 5 letters plus any word with those 5 letters in that order AND any word that has those 5 letters in order AND any suffixes and prefixes, ie, " undress", "dresses", "dressmakers", etc.
If you get too many, either choose categories from the side of search, one at a time OR
go into advanced search and exclude certain forms of your search word, in this case you might exclude "dressage" and "addresser".
If you want to cover misspellings, put in only part of the word plus the asterisk, using that part you think NOONE can get wrong, ie, " calc* " will get you both "calculator" and calculater", Of course some people so badly mangle spelling that you can't catch them all, for instance, "kalculator".

tnernie: "I thought they had fixed the search where it would find plurals of the keyword"
Makes me sad too, ernie! ... I also thought ebay had fixed on that. [they said they were going to, and it WAS fixed, i guess just for a short while, eh?] It is not for us seasoned ebay searchers that we give a hoot [a lot of us already know about the asterisk wildcard] ... it is FOR the wonderful newbie buyers that we would LIKE to have OUR listings show up for them! When suzie-Q types in her response, on ebay's Home Page, to the question "What are you looking for?" --- she of course, types "dresses" .... well dangit!

Yep ernie ... and when a seller DOES use the singular and plural form of the word in the title, I go clicking on it to see if I really am being offered more than one ...
