Alrighty, I just got "the phone call" from eBay ... blah blah yada yada, wish I had all my "the ebay outlook" notes handy, and I woulda told her more than just 'hmmph' ... she was basically trying to upsell me into opening an 'ebay store' [instead of my vendio store], and also the 'free money' they have set aside for our silver powerseller account for me to try out their 'banner ad' program .........

She did ask me if I had any questions or comments I might have for them, and I just sorta told her, that it's not really ebay's 'fault', but that they have exploded in growth of # of listings over the past few years, so 'hits' are down, as well as ending bid amounts, but I told her everyone loves that we have the added characters' length to Titles to be able to have the shoppers try to find our listings. [she says, well that's why you should try the banner ads and ebay-store] ... I should have told her the litany of still-needed 'improvements' that we all talk about here so often, but I guess I was just bummed at that point, that she was obviously calling to try to get more $ for ebay, from me.

Said she'll send me an email recapping what all she just talked to me about, and will call me back in a month or so ... I promise to try to have a note tacked next to my phone with a list of what i SHOULD have told her today.

P.S. she likes the looks of Vendio listings.

Wow, they've been hitting the phones lately.

I got a call on Wednesday from "Amy" at eBay. She wanted to know if she could analyze my auctions and propose some "best practices" changes. She had gotten my name passed along from the marketroids at the Off-Price Show.

I suggested gently that perhaps since I have nearly 11,000 feedback across all my accounts it might not be a good use of their time to be focusing on me. Plus, I'm pretty sure I know what eBay considers "best practices" and I disagree with most of them.

LOL, Fluff [may I call you 'Fluff'?] ... that's the truth.

She wanted to know if I plan on 'building my business' bigger soon. ... I told her I already work way more than 40 hrs./wk. at this, and I can't physically grow 'my business' any bigger. I gotta list, and gotta try to pay the bills....

ARY: Why do you think eBay is reaching out to us mid-level sellers (I'm assuming you do less than 1000 auctions a month...correct me if I'm wrong) instead of coddling the big guys?

From what I've read lately, it seems eBay is doing nothing to hold onto the high volume sellers who are unhappy with recent changes,

I don't get it. Seems it would be more cost-effective for them to start at the top of the seller food chain and work down.

Or the big guys have told them to go take a flying leap. Maybe that's it.

since yahoo bot and revamp overture,it has rounded up 148,000 websites under yahoo shopping.
if you have not heard it over the news, its first quarter earnings not only blow away wall street estimate,it blows away yahoo management as well.
it is declaring a 2 for 1 stock split and revised its future earnings upwards.

eBay's 40% sell through rate can't last either when they charge for each listing.

Batting 400 is great for baseball, but is a disaster for retail.

I'm not advocating free listings or anything like that, but it does tend to show that the eBay platform is reaching its limits.
