I don't accept PayPal, never did. My NPBers are around 2%-4%. I get some slow payers, but that has it's up side too. I get to laugh at some of the excuses.
I think alot depends on the type of merchandise you sell. My main area is antiques and collectables, aimed at an older generation of collectors.
I'm sure that if I was selling cd's, baseball cards and such my NPBers would be higher.

In the online auction/sale game, I can't imagine being without it!
I wish I could sell PayPal only, but I know that would cut sales!
To me the cost is ZIP, a merchant acct. would be much more.
PayPal lets me ship pronto!
Which my customers seem to like,They may not like my shipping prices since I only ship USPS Priority,BUT it turns out they like the fast service.( Check My Feedback )
As far as NPB goes, You'll get them, these are people who have second thoughts,And you can't make them pay, (So what do they care?)
I don't get many NPB's, But I do get some, and my customers can pay me any way they like, so there is no reason for them not to pay Except for the fact that they don't want to!

I LOVE paypal. Something that simplifies my life as much as it does is woth the fees. It seems that most of my buyers are PayPal lately...more and more. I've seen some auctions that restrict PayPal to buys over $15.00. I've been thinking of that because the fees seem like a lot for the lower priced collectables that I sell. Anyone tried that restriction yet?

Hi
For many years I would not accept paypal and it never hurt my sales. I just recently started accepting paypal and I am wondering how I ever did without it...
The fees don't bother me, I find the convenience of paypal sending the end of auction email which saves me time, plus if I'm away and auctions come off I know paypal has contacted the buyer.
Since I started accepting paypal 9 out of every 10 auctions that close is paid with paypal. It Seems the buyers like it cause there is no charge to them and for me that's good because the small fee on each transaction is a convenience to my buyers and they all pay very quickly.
What I also like about paypal is I can transfer my funds directly to my checking account and with the debit card I can make purchases on the Internet without any problems.
And the best part of paypal is that whenever I had to call to find out anything there was always someone available to talk with and they are very helpful weather it be in the day time or in the middle of the night.
Like I mentioned,....don't know how I did without Paypal......I love it!.........and all my selling ID's can be attached to this one main account.
You should give yourself a chance and try it, you can always close paypal account if you don't find it works well for you.

I can't imagine being without it. 80-90% pay with it. I know when I buy, I pretty much will rule out auctions that don't accept paypal. I don't like fees, but deal with them and factor them into my business model.

I se it with the personal account so there are no fees. I can't justify the fees with the ave price of my auctions

I accepted PayPal in its early days, but got rid of it about 3 years ago when they were indulging in very questionable busy practices. I've done just fine without them.
Recently I decided to try an experiment. Since PayPal seems to have straightened out their act to a great extent, I decided to give them another chance & started accepting it again.
The result? Zip. Nada. Zilch. Nothing. People continue to pay with checks & money orders. I will continue the experiment to see if this changes. But I don't think I'll holdmy breath.

I'm a small seller, I have PayPal but don't list it as a payment option. If a customer asks to use PP I let them. Still enjoy opening envelopes and taking out the money!

I know there are people like me who look for paypal and pass (unless it is something that is REALLY unique) if they don't - I won't bother to ask sellers if they take a payment method that is not listed, so in my book that is not that smart...

PayPal was a fad, nobody uses it anymore, buyers have returned to the convenience of money orders. Same with copiers, I'm seeing more and more people using carbon paper again with manual typewriters, copiers just couldn't compete with carbon paper over the long haul. I've just removed Windows from my computer and I'm using DOS 1.4 again. Next year I'm planning on turning my garage into a stable.

Ms24ktau--I use it, have for a couple of years. I was reluctant to, but finally came around and I too cannot imagine not using PayPal. I do have a message in my payment instructions asking that, for items ending under $15, I prefer check or money order, but it's not mandatory. My buyers are very good about this, and sometimes they even add $.50 to $1 to make up for the Paypal fees. Nice people.
In 900+ sales, I've had only 4 NPBs. No chargebacks. Just lucky, I guess.

I do not accept Paypal. I find that for the items I sell, Paypal would force me to raise prices (due to increased costs) making it more difficult for me to compete with other sellers. I get the customers who are looking to pay the lowest prices, yet willing to wait a little bit longer for their merchandise. My competitors get the customers who don't mind paying a little more for the extra speed and convenience. I think it works well for all of us. I do accept personal checks and money orders... and ship very quickly (sometimes being able to provide faster shipment than my competitors who accept paypal). Yet, I don't have to pass on high-percentage Paypal fees and added delivery confirmation costs to my customers. Most of my items sell between the $2.50-15 range... so with all the added costs... Paypal would probably add an extra $1 or so to my expenses. And of course my biggest gripe is that Paypal requires you to resolve shipment problems within 30 days... yet the USPS won't even begin to investigate a problem until 30 days have expired. I just don't understand how people can do business with both of those parties effectively considering the conflicting terms. However... if Paypal works for you... more power to you. I find that there is enough of a market in some areas for both Paypal and non-Paypal sellers to exist. Just my thoughts.

Man!! I love P/P, ya, it costs me, but I can turn over my cash flow so much faster. The only way that I can buy more inventory is with a cash flow. In the past 24 hrs, I have had 4 sales, with P/P & the other 2 with MO's. I went to a "blind auction today & spent over $300.00. W/O PayPal I would have use another Credi Card & pay the fees. I will get back at least $6.00 of my costs. I know that on nickel & dime items, the cost is too high, but on the items I sell $30.00 & up it is only like 3% I can live with that. If you have ever had a B & M Store, you will understand. Been there, Done that.

but not all sellers use usps, some use fed exp or ups.so 30 days is not a problem to them.but i agree, with usps shipping, there is a problem .but how often does it happen??
it is not i dont appreciate bidders sending me money order or check or cash or wiretransfer,it is that i am not selling food or medicine, they can change their mind and send me nothing.
so if they get suspended, they can always use another id.
