Wow! I signed up for the free trial and the results are already impressive and very informative! My concern is...HOW does Sellathon get all this information? Viewers aren't going to get a nasty spy thingie by visiting my auctions are they?? Does EBay have any problems with sellers using Sellathon??

The amazing thing I have found so far is that 87% of buyers search "title" only...wouldn't they be surprised at all the results they would find by searching descriptions as well!! Another thing is that if they search a state, they search the whole name of the state....good thing eBay allows us more characters in the descriptions these days!

Hi Neglus,

I signed up for it too and I'm just as impressed as you are!

I have no idea how Sellathon gets this info and I don't really care. As far as eBay having a problem I'm sure there would have been postings in the user forum.

It's great knowing how many have put an auction on watch...

Unbelievable stats and info. One feature I particularly like is being able to see where the person is from. This morning I had lookers from Alaska, Pennsylvania and California on one of my auctions.

It surprised me to see such a low percentage of people searching title and description. Virtually all of them search title only. Knowing the keywords they used will be a huge help in coming up with effective titles.

Sorry about that...I learned about it on earlier threads here..it's a Seller service that tracks visits to your auctions etc and spits out all kind of information - I don't know all the possiblities yet but it seems really useful in figuring out keywords, auction timing etc...I promise I have no affliation with Sellathon so not trolling!

Here's the link:
http://www.sellathon.com/. There's a 30 day free trial.

Ok, I went there went it was mentioned earlier and signed up. The free trial of course

They have you put java script in your auction (which, I'm not sure, but does ebay allow that?)

Then I went and put Sellathon in search, checking titles and descriptions, the first ones, quite a few actually, the script was just out there. All the java script right there in the auction, so I don't think they did it right? So, I'm leary.

Do you guys that use it, had any problem with the java script they give you?

I do know that sparedollar.com has a 'limited' seller service that is a little similiar, whereas they show the IP number when you go to see who has been at your auction. And there are a few places where you can get IP info. at the very least you can get a geographical location.

I know Lucy..the title thing really surprised me too. I had two lookers for keyword "walgreens" and they searched titles only! Now how many postcards sellers put Walgreens in the title? I just happened to because I am always experimenting with things like that! No bids yet

Nearthe...I revised some auctions I listed yesterday and put the script right at the end of the description..it comes up as a "sellathon" logo and link to the site..I changed my Vendio custom listing text today and pasted the HTML at the end of my custom text. I just checked an auction that launched tonight and the script works..just a Sellathon logo link. I think eBay does allow Java now, doesn't it?

This does so much more than Sparedollar's counters! The whole IP address does not show for privacy reasons but you can click to see geographical location. The best part is that you can see how people got to your auction..what search they were using..if they used clickable links..if they searched Title or Title and description, if they searched category, hi$-low$ or Low$-Hi, ending first, if an auction is being watched, if an auction is being sniped (how do they know that?).. etc..as i said I don't know all that it can do yet but talk about NEW TOYS!!

Thanks neglus, I think I might try it.

I don't know, I have only heard mention about java script here, and what I *think* I remember is they wouldn't allow it, but that may have been long ago. If sellathon wants to sell its product, then I'm sure they've checked that all out with ebay, and its got to be ok.

Thanks, I think I'll give it a try, when I start new ones and before the free trial is over!

If the Sellathon code isn't copied and pasted correctly into the listing it will show up as text.

When you sign up there are very specific instructions on how to get the Sellathon stuff into your auction. It's simple but has to be done right.

None of mine show text, just the Sellathon logo, which will disappear once I become a paying customer. While still in the trial period the option to not display the logo isn't available.

I'm very impressed with it as well. It has enabled me to improve my listings. I've already noticed a difference in my sell through rate.

As far as I know it doesn't use cookies or spyware, so nothing will end up on the viewers computers. I've run Adaware after visiting Sellathon auctions and nothing showed up.

I've been using it for quite a while now too and I love it. It's amazing the stats you can get and their customer service is the best I've ever seen!

I'm not affiliated with them either, but I sure would recommend everyone to at least try the free trial.

I had a chat with Ohmslucy this afternoo & I am not sure that the price is worth it. $49.00 a month is a big cut into profits.

Sanmar, good to see you today.

It's not $49.00 a month, it's $49.00 for a year. Just knowing what keywords people are using is worth it to me.

I'm debating whether to sign up now or use a couple weeks more of my free 30-days. The idea of no logo in the auction appeals to me a LOT.

Will prolly just sign up, spend the fifty bucks and call it good!

Dang, I LOVE knowing those keywords...

You got it, Jack. They give a city and state, i.e., Fairbanks, Alaska (US)

The only time you can't see the location is if the IP's not mapped. I could see prolly 95% of my lookers.

Try it - I thought of you when I saw the location possibilities.

Lucy...I checked one of your auctions and then ran Spybot Search and Destroy. It came up clean, so they are not using spyware or depositing tracking cookies as per the latest update of the program I am using. I expressed some concern about that in another thread but it looks like they may be on the up and up.

Thanks, Sparkz. It's good to know I'm not infested with any terrible awful germy little nasties!

Just between y'all and me and the fence post, I think I'm gonna love Sellathon. I'm about 95% sure I ended up with multiple bids on one of my auctions because of it. Saw the keywords early on, changed the title. The winning bidder had searched on the later keywords.

So go figure, how can it hurt? Fifty bucks isn't a whole lotta $$$, right? Anything that gets those bids up off the ground is worth it.

Can I insert my code in auctions I just listed? If so will it be at the end of the description?

Neglus I just checked your auctions how do you get that big of picture or do you use zoom?

Libra,

It's a cut and paste. I put it in mine right below the PayPal logo. Then added it to my Vendio Custom Text so now it automatically goes in the same place.

I 'spose if you already have bids you'd need to add, as opposed to editing the description. Either way, it showed up in all of mine and the info was most enlightening.

Hi Libra - I scan my images at 150% to get the large images and I don't use the click to enlarge (I once did a little survey and buyers said they didn't like to do the extra click)..I hope that buyers can see every little imperfection before they bid because postcard grading is so subjective.

I revised a few existing auctions this morning to add the sellathon script. I just put it at the end of my description (you have to make sure you are making the eBay revision in the HTML mode). I also added it to the Vendio custom listing text and it worked on all the auctions I launched tonight.

This sounds very interesting. I wonder if ebay will "bark" due to the java thing?

I just signed up for the trial and just added it to one auction I already had running.
It looks like the location part doesn't work right. It says that I am in Harmony, Maine (US)
(I am in Wisconsin)

Hello everyone. It's been a long, long time since I posted, but I just had to come out of hibernation for this subject. I think Sellathon is fascinating so far, from what I'm reading here and on their site. However, I've got some concerns, as something fantastic like this usually gets shot down by those with opposing interests (ebay staff, competing sellers, disgruntled deadbeats, random do-gooders, etc).

What I'm wondering is the following; Once the word gets out, will ebay search for auctions that use Sellathon, threaten those sellers, cancel their auctions, or even suspend them as an example to the rest of us? Scary thought when the majority of your income derives from ebay, despite having product websites and other attempts at diversification. Also, the Sellathon site never actually says for certain if their product abides by all ebay rules. Of course, nothing really abides by ebay rules anyway (laughs), *including* ebay themselves. It just seems to me that if Sellathon's wares were not in violation of some well-hidden ebay rule, Sellathon would harp on that fact on their site to entice orders and allay seller's fears. I don't know.

You haven't heard from me in some time on this board because I am finally considering calling it quits after 5 non-stop years of ebaying without a day off. The fees from ebay and Paypal, business being way down, super-high self employment taxes, deadbeats and fake bidders getting away with murder while ebay fiddles, and other factors were making me pretty much say the hell with it. And now this Sellathon thing comes along. So I'm at a crossroads.

What do you think?

I wrote Customer Support at Sellathon to get these concerns answered and received almost IMMEDIATE (WOW!) response and here it is:

ViewTracker is in compliance with all of eBay's policies concerning javascript, links, and third party credits so there should be no reason for concern. We also do not use cookies of any type as they are agains eBay policy. We have been in constant contact with eBay legal to ensure that we have dotted all of our i's and crossed all of our t's.
