I know this question has been answered here many times but I didn't pay attention since I wasn't considering it until now.
Last night I tried setting up a 2nd id but ebay aborted it saying I already was a member. So, I tried just changing my id, which it did...but am required to stick with it for 30 days.
Now, however, I've thought about it and decided that having 2 id's is a good idea since I sell two very different item types, primarily books and 'other stuff'.
What does ebay require to issue a 2nd id(my old id, in fact)?

you have to use a different email addr.
log off your old email addr and log back on with your other email addr and try again

You will need to have another email account (besides the one you have connected to your current ID) to set up a second ID.
I can't remember exactly what the requirements are, but if you use one of those free emails...yahoo, hotmail, etc., you'll have to jump through some additional hoops.
If you can set up a second one through your ISP it will be much easier.

I DONT THINK SO,i think after x number of days, the old name is up for grab.
i have seen people who hijack names,if you have a catchy name, they will wait and go after it.

Wrong. That id will be deleted from the system after 30 days. Once that has happened, it will be available to anyone who wishes to have it. We changed our ebay id at work about 2 months ago. Personally I thought the original was better. So after the 30 days, I scooped it up for myself using a different e-mail address.
