Hello to all - I know that you've probably covered this topic, but I'm relatively new to eBay and another seller from a community board on eBay told me that they've recently made changes.

What exactly is keyword spamming and search manipulation? I had two auctions ended one for search manipulation and one for keyword spamming. One of my items was a Brighton Purse ( I bought it at a Brighton Store - have box and everything including receipt ) and they said it was "keyword spamming". Then a second item had the word "Jessica" in the subtitle and they took that down indicating it was "search manipulation". I've tried in vain to write to them about both items because how do you sell Brighton without putting Brighton in the title?

Can anyone explain how they look at these, how their system works so that I can list my items without worry of having this happen again? I have other brandname items that I haven't yet put up and would like to but am concerned because I read where another seller got taken off of eBay.

Thanks

I can see why you're concerned! I don't have an answer for you but am bumping this up because some smart person here will.

Thanks Roadsmith! I've read and read the agreement and the A-Z help files on eBay as I was instructed to do in the emails when they eliminated those two auctions and I'm more confused now.

I don't really have an answer either, but there must have been something else wrong besides "Brighton Purse" in the title. I just did a search and came up with 379 items with "Brighton Purse" in the title.

Did you mention any other brands in the description, such as "better than Coach" or "prettier than Blank"? That would be keyword spamming.

You also still see advice to sellers to put a lot of words in the background color or in a small point size in their ads, but I don't expect you did that or you would not have any question about why.

Could it be something as simple as another seller of Brighton (whatever that is) Purses trying to get rid of competition. I have heard that eBay will end auctions if they have a complaint just to be on the safe side.

Good luck at solving the mystery.

None of your auctions are available for viewing, so it's pointless to speculate.

Fluffy - I asked for information about keyword spamming & search manipulation, not that you "speculate" about my current auctions. And I'm not sure why you would think my auctions aren't available as they are clearly on the eBay auction site.

Ok - this situation happened over a month ago so I had to go searching through my "stuff" to find the ad. Sorry, it wasn't a purse, it was a bracelet - Here is the heading :

BRIGHTON GOLD/ SILVER "REGENCY" ELEGANT TOGGLE NECKLACE

And here is the body of the ad:

This is a beautiful BRAND NEW BRIGHTON REGENCY Necklace. Very elegant, in Gold and Silver, the toggle closure is truly unique! ~and it can be worn in the front or in the back. It is 18" Long and comes in it's own gift tin (as shown). This is the only one I have so bid quickly! A very low reserve on this classic yet gorgeous piece!! One of Brighton's most prestigious and a great gift for Valentine's Day.

Hope this helps Fluffy. There were two photo's that I took of the necklace WITH the tags on it and in the Original Heart Shaped Brighton Tin.

That won't cut it.

I want to see the actual auction page so I can check to see if you have white-on-white text or other transgressions.

In the future, try being polite to people who are willing to help out.

Gosh Fluffy! I certainly didn't mean to come across being "impolite". Perhaps some misreading? I can't show you the original ad because they took it down. So hence, it's not there and I certainly don't have a copy. I only found the original copy writing because it was in my Vendio Inventory Database still. How else could I show it to you?
I'm not sure what "white on white" is but all I did was type my information into the Vendio template, saved it into my inventory and off it went.
I've read your writings on here before. You are a "top of the heap" type gal aren't you?
If I can provide you with something I'm not aware of - just let me know!!

I've only had one auction nuked for keyword spamming. They quoted the exact phrase they objected to when they sent me the ended email. On another note, I still haven't been able to figure out what they consider the difference to be between "keyword spamming" and "search manipulation" unless one has to do with the wording in the title and the other in the description.

Lore...one observation I made is that your title contained quotation marks and that's an eBay no-no (ours is not to wonder why...), maybe that was the problem.

neroter12 -
ooops...think I made another faux paw. Really didn't mean it negatively.

neglus -
thanks! I didn't know that about the quotes. I wrote & told them it was real Brighton but they didn't return an email. I have listed other Brighton items since then and have had no problem.

A seller on the community boards at eBay said that other sellers turn each other in - but I can't understand that. How do they do that and why? And why would they take it down if it was Brighton? I see sellers who blatantly put Brandnames in their titles and have sold for along time and I do not do that. I can understand that would be search manipulation if you had a product that was not that particular brandname.

I have one or two auctions running right now that have quotation marks in the title, so that can't be it, can it?

Lorelei: I am sure you did not mean to extend your faux paw in the wrong way to fluffy. (I am one pretty good at doing that on here) - but it was obviously innocent in a downhomey kinda way - that is why I giggled at thinking of fluffy and "heap" of anything in the same sentence.

neroter12, you offended me by writing "downhomey". I'm a homey and I don't want to be a "downhomey on the bottom of the heap. Can I get 10 post that say that was dumbhomey?

I remember when I first started listing that the eBay listing service said that quotes could not be used in the title but I sure can't find it now!

Maybe the problem with the listing was the "regency" in the quotes and not the Brighton at all ??? Maybe ebay thought that since you used quotes and that it really wasnt Regency (whatever that is) but regency-like or something like that???

Neglus ~

I wish I'd saved that eMail that they sent then I could "type" more intelligently in regards to what they said, but I remember that it sighted that I was using a Brand-name for an item that wasn't Brighton and it had cut and pasted part of the heading. Geez - memory fading here. I don't recall any reference to quotation marks.

Wrote to them and told them it was Brighton and the eMail must have gone into eBay lost and found I think - because no eBay 2buckchuckie alien( tx ohmslucy for that idea ) responded. Do they really have humans at the ends of their A-Z Help Links?

Are they only good for collecting my HUGE payment every month?
