Yep, bidder wins auction. pays via paypal, but wants it shipped to a different address that isn't confirmed with her account on paypal. A big no-no with me. So, I email her and explain why I don't do that, and refund her payment. She emails me back that she'll send it via Western Union. Weeks go by, nothing. I send repeated emails, nothing. She leaves positive feedback. I email her yesterday giving one last chance, and she says she doesn't want the item now, but will pay my fees to relist it. yeah, and cows fly. I don't list items for people to back out. I explain, no payment = FVF and negative feedback.

What do these bidders think??? I don't have a month to wait around for them to decide they don't want their item. The wait is enough for a neg, let alone not pay for the item.

Like I said, I will never refund,,,once you do, YOU lose, they do whatever they want to after that. If it's short,,,,,send the balance due. Never refund. But many think different, works for me.

I have shipped many times to an unconfirmed address & never have had a problem. I always use Delivery Confirmation. I just shipped one to a town in upstate NY for a buyer who lives in Canada. This way he isn't stuck for duty.

Are Canadians really allowed to sneak merchandise back across the border without having to pay duty?

Wow.

Yup, just like we used to go north and smuggle whiskey south. Border seldom checked and when they did was not very good.

Mexico, however used to check at some crossing quite well.

Ah the good old money making days....

Never Ever do what Jack says. If you accept that payment, legally you accept it as payment in full and accept its terms as well. If it should go to court, you lose. You did the correct thing by sending the money back.

Also, never ever accept the BS about paying fees. This lets deadbeats off of the hook. Always file NPB and FVF stating payment was never sent. Then at least it will go on the idiots record and count in the deadbeat count.

And in this case, a great big NEGATIVE is warranted.

Why assume that the Canadian is sneaking it across the border without paying duty? Maybe he's going to be in the US for a couple of days.

I cross the border once or twice each week and they're pretty diligent on both sides about searching vehicles, especially since 9/11.

Many times they rotate border guards/customs officers so you never know who is going to be there from one time to the next. I don't know of anyone that would attempt to smuggle items, it wouldn't be worth the risk. But I guess a few will try and some may get away with it.

These are the facts:

"Canadians returning to Canada from the U.S., after an absence of more than 24 but less than 48 hours are allowed to bring back $50 Can. worth of goods duty free. Those away for more than 48 hours may bring back $200 worth of goods and $500 worth of goods may be brought back duty free after an absence of 7 days."

As Kiara said...driving into the States to pick up a package, as well as a little sightseeing and/or visiting relatives is not smuggling. Now, those 60 cartons of cigarettes under the afghan in the back....well

sneak shmeak...when I cross on this side of the continent the border patrol barely glances.
The only time they looked twice at me was three weeks after 9/11 I went up to go pick up a horse and they were all freakin' because I am a brunett...those silly canucks!
(no strip search...horse is fine, too!)
