Hello. I am going to sell off some of my personal record albums and some of my 45's. I know all about the grading thru Goldmine and other collectible record price guides.
My question is where to list these? I went to a search on Ebay and I cannot believe how low of a selling price some of these albums are bringing. Or is that the true market price? Or would you suggest perhaps going to a record show? But I cannot find them in my area anymore (not like the old days). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

two summers ago, a freind asked me to sell some of his albums. they were all from the 60's and 70's and he had some really good artists.
they sold for so little that I gave most of them back and told him to keep them. it was just sorry what they were going for. the Beatles ones didn't do too bad, and the Kiss ones did just okay. other than that, they were a bust.

Records, all kinds, even the old brittle 78s, are very iffy to sell. Occasionally an odd one of, say, African chants, gets $15 to $25, but mostly, if they sell at all, they sell for $5.
A serious collector came over and looked at 150 LPs and 45s that a neighbor had given me when they moved. He said there were perhaps three that were of any real value, and even then the jackets weren't in the pristine condition true collectors are looking for.
If you know a true collector, who subscribes to magazines for such folks, I'd see if he/she would help you a bit with them.
Then there's the packing--get clean pizza boxes, pad them somewhat on the inside, tape the heck out of them. A lot of work for a little bit of money.
I don't mean to sound too discouraging, but it's very chancey. Proceed at your own risk!

Use boxes for small pizzas for the 45's, medium pizza boxes for the 78's and large pizza boxes for the 33's. And for God's sake, make sure there are no ants in those boxes before you ship them

I have offered some of my 8,000 albums for sale, and learned the hard way. It is a constant barrage for who did what song, and who is listed as writer on the third song, and does it have this little label at the bottom of the back of the cover? It is a little disgusting and a lot annoying. You have to do all the research on the minutiae, either before hand or during the auction. Currently vinyl media buyers are a PITA way beyond it's ability to generate cash flow, IMHO.

Yes you are right. A big PITA! After the postings this week, dropping that product line. They will just go back into my collection. I thought selling clothes was bad!

Depending on the record, one question you may get if you do not put it in your listing is whether it is stereo or mono.
